Daniel Defense DDM4 Rifles: DDM4 V7, V9, and DDM4A1
The Daniel Defense DDM4 family is the most widely recognized product line in the Daniel Defense catalog — and one of the most respected AR-15 platforms at any price point. Western Sport stocks the full DDM4 lineup in North Texas: V7, V7 Pro, V7 SLW, V7 S, PDW, and multiple color and configuration variants. Authorized dealer. FFL since 2007. Call 817-393-4000.
The DDM4 Platform: Engineering That Earns Military Contracts
Every DDM4 rifle starts with a Cold Hammer Forged (CHF) barrel — the same manufacturing process specified for U.S. military M4 service rifles. A steel blank is forced under hydraulic pressure over a precision mandrel, creating a bore that is harder, denser, and more wear-resistant than button-rifled alternatives. The result is tighter tolerances from the first round to the ten-thousandth, and accuracy that holds up over hard use in a way that cheaper barrels don’t.
Receivers are machined from forged 7075-T6 aluminum — the strongest grade used in AR-15 construction. Bolt carrier groups are magnetic particle inspected and high-pressure tested. Barrel extensions are indexed within tighter-than-mil-spec headspace tolerances. Daniel Defense doesn’t just claim “Mil-Spec+” — they hold the military contracts that require auditing against those standards.
DDM4 Model Guide
DDM4 V7 — The Flagship
The DDM4 V7 is Daniel Defense’s most popular rifle and the benchmark for what a duty-grade AR-15 should be. 16-inch CHF barrel, 5.56 NATO, slim M-LOK handguard, ambidextrous controls, and Daniel Defense’s proprietary adjustable stock. Available in Black, FDE, Cobalt, Tornado, Rattlecan, and Mil-Spec+ finishes. The V7 is the rifle that established Daniel Defense’s reputation in the civilian market, and it’s the one most special operations personnel choose to train with on their own time.
DDM4 V7 Pro — Precision Variant
The V7 Pro extends the DDM4 V7 to an 18-inch barrel — the same CHF construction, now optimized for precision at distance. The longer barrel delivers more consistent muzzle velocity and tighter groups at 300+ yards. Available in Black, FDE, and Gun Metal Gray. If your application leans toward precision over CQB, the V7 Pro is the DDM4 to buy.
DDM4 V7 SLW — The Pinned 14.5
The V7 SLW runs a 14.5-inch barrel with a permanently pinned muzzle device, bringing the overall barrel length to legal 16 inches. The result is a shorter, faster-handling rifle without the NFA paperwork of an SBR. The SLW was developed for military and LE users who wanted the compact feel of a 14.5-inch without the registration requirement.
DDM4 V7 S — The Short
The V7 S is a non-NFA rifle with a shorter handguard profile. Available in Black and select configurations.
DDM4 PDW — Maximum Compact
The DDM4 PDW takes the AR-15 concept to its most compact form: a 7-inch barrel in 300 Blackout with a purpose-built folding stock system. At its most compressed, the PDW is significantly more packable than any standard AR-15. The 300 Blackout cartridge is optimized for short-barrel performance, making this an effective close-range package despite its size. Ships as a pistol configuration; Western Sport can assist with SBR conversion paperwork.
DDM4 in 300 Blackout
Several DDM4 variants are available in 300 Blackout (.300 BLK) — an optimized cartridge for short-barrel AR-15 platforms. 300 Blackout provides significantly more energy at close range than 5.56 from a short barrel, while also being optimized for suppressed use. The DDM4 V7P, PDW, and several pistol variants run 300 Blackout. Western Sport stocks suppressor-ready 300 BLK DDM4 configurations alongside our full line of NFA suppressors.

DDM4 lineup overview
The DDM4 series covers Daniel Defense’s standard 5.56 NATO and .300 Blackout configurations. All DDM4 models use a 16″ cold hammer-forged barrel with mid-length gas system — the combination that gives the platform its reputation for reliability. The BCG is mil-spec with a properly staked gas key and MPI-tested bolt.DDM4 V7 vs V9: the V7 uses the boxier RIS II handguard; the V9 uses a slimmer Slim Line profile and costs about $130 more. Both run the same barrel and BCG. The performance difference is negligible — it is an aesthetics and ergonomics call. The DDM4 V7 SLW (Slim Line Weight) is the lightest version, running about 5.8 lbs with a trimmed stock. Read our full comparison in the DDM4 V7 review.Ships without iron sights — budget for an optic. The flat-top upper accepts any standard 1913 Picatinny optic mount. Aimpoint PRO, Trijicon MRO, and EOTech EXPS3 are the red dots we pair with DDM4 rifles most often. If you’re planning to swap the handguard or add an aftermarket barrel to your DDM4 build, we carry Odin Works barrels, handguards, and extended mag releases — all in stock.
