Optics at Western Sport

We carry red dots, LPVOs, ACOGs, magnified scopes, night vision, and iron sights from Trijicon, Aimpoint, EOTech, Vortex, Holosun, and other manufacturers worth buying. Optic selection depends on what you are doing with the rifle and how far you are shooting.

For an AR-15 home defense or patrol carbine: a quality red dot is the right call. Aimpoint PRO or Trijicon MRO are the two we recommend most — both run on a single battery, both are rugged, both return to zero. For a versatile range rifle, a 1-6x or 1-8x LPVO gives you both eyes-open close range and real magnification at distance.

Come in and look through the glass before you buy. We stock most of what we sell, so you can get a feel for the optic before committing. Call (817) 393-4000 or stop by in Roanoke.

Choosing the right optic for your setup

Budget honestly for optic and mount together. A $400 optic on a $30 mount is a bad combination — the optic will not hold zero under recoil. Geissele Super Precision and LaRue Tactical QD mounts are what we put on customer builds most often. They add to the cost but do not give you problems.

For magnified optics: first focal plane (FFP) reticles scale with magnification, so BDC marks are accurate at any power. Second focal plane (SFP) reticles are only accurate at max power. FFP is the correct choice for a variable magnification scope. Some exceptions exist for competition use.

Night vision is a category we can discuss in detail in-store — there is a wide range of quality and price, and the wrong purchase at the wrong price point is easy to make. Call ahead if night vision is what you are looking for.
