What to know before buying a pistol

Most defensive pistol purchases should include: the pistol, at least three magazines, a quality holster (not a universal fit), and defensive hollow point ammunition to confirm reliability. Budget for all four before you buy. A pistol without a holster is not a defensive tool.

Optics-ready slides are worth the premium if you plan to run a red dot. Milling a slide later costs $100–$200 at a gunsmith. The optics-ready versions come with factory cuts and suppressor-height sights. Holosun 507C and Trijicon RMR Type 2 are the two most common additions.

Order online and we ship your pistol to the licensed FFL dealer you choose near you. Pay by card or finance through Credova at checkout. We price match authorized dealers on identical items that are in stock and ready to ship. Looking for a model we do not list? Send us a message and we can usually special-order it.

Western Sport keeps 2,000+ handguns on the books — Glock, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, and more, from single-stack carry guns to full-size duty and competition pistols. We’ve been a licensed FFL since 2007, and because we’re also an SOT/Class III dealer, we handle threaded barrels, suppressor-host pistols, and NFA paperwork in-house instead of shipping you elsewhere.

What we stock

Micro-compacts and single-stacks built for concealed carry, full-size 9mm and .45 duty guns, optic-ready slides cut for a red dot, and revolvers from .22 plinkers to big-bore hunting wheelguns. Want a dot mounted, a threaded barrel fitted, or a custom Cerakote finish? Our gunsmith does that work on-site — you’re not waiting weeks on an outside shop.

How to pick the right one

Start with the job the pistol has to do — everyday carry, home defense, range and competition, or hunting. That decision drives frame size and caliber more than anything on the spec sheet. A micro-compact 9mm hides under a t-shirt but gives up rounds and shootability; a full-size gun is easier to run well but harder to conceal. Factor in how much you’ll actually shoot, and match your ammunition accordingly — practice ammo adds up quicker than most people plan for. New to handguns? Come handle a few first. Grip angle and trigger feel are personal, and thirty seconds in your hand tells you more than any spec chart.

Why buy here

You’ll be talking to people who shoot and build guns for a living, not a call center reading a script. Order online and we ship your pistol to the licensed FFL dealer you choose near you, and we stand behind everything we sell. Browse the full lineup below.
