Product Description

The Daniel Defense DD5 V4 Rifle in this configuration is a semi-automatic 7.62 NATO rifle with an 18" barrel, built by Daniel Defense on the DD5 platform as a California Compliant SKU, part number 02-158-13210-055.

Eighteen inches is the length most semi-automatic .308 shooters should want. A 16" barrel is handier and a 20" gives more velocity; 18 sits where the cartridge still delivers close to its design velocity but the rifle has not become awkward to carry or shoot from improvised positions. For hunting at real distances and steel at four to eight hundred yards, it is the length that stops you compromising.

The DD5 architecture is what you are buying into. Daniel Defense joins the handguard to the upper receiver with a 4-Bolt Connection System rather than a barrel nut, increasing the surface area of the joint for rigidity and stability. The bolt carrier group is superfinished and DLC coated with a buffer in the carrier, and the bolt has enhanced extractor geometry and dual ejectors. Controls are fully ambidextrous, and the rifle feeds from SR-25 pattern magazines.

What we will confirm before you order

This SKU’s calibre, barrel length, model and compliance class are verified. Its twist rate, barrel profile, gas system length, rail length, muzzle device and weight are not, and we will not carry those across from the 16" DD5 V3 and present them as this rifle’s specification.

California Compliant configuration

Daniel Defense catalogues this DD5 V4 as a California Compliant SKU. Compliance requirements change, are read differently from one locality to another, and a build that satisfies them now may not later. Western Sport will not tell you this rifle is legal where you live — confirm the current requirements for your own state, county and city with a competent source first.

7.62 NATO or 6.5 Creedmoor?

Daniel Defense builds the 18" DD5 V4 in both. Choose .308 if ammunition cost and availability matter, if you want the widest selection of hunting loads, or if you already own .308 rifles. Choose 6.5 Creedmoor for distance work: better ballistic coefficients and less wind drift for the same recoil. Both feed SR-25 pattern magazines. Compare in our Daniel Defense rifle range and see optics and ammunition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why choose an 18-inch barrel in 7.62 NATO?

A: Because it is the balance point. A 16-inch barrel handles better, a 20-inch barrel gives more velocity, and 18 inches keeps most of the cartridge’s design velocity while remaining carryable and shootable from improvised positions. For a rifle that has to hunt and shoot steel at distance, it is the least compromised choice.

Q: What twist rate and barrel profile does this SKU have?

A: We do not have verified figures tied to this part number and we will not borrow them from the 16-inch DD5 V3.

Q: What magazines does the DD5 V4 take?

A: SR-25 pattern magazines, the common standard for AR-10 type 7.62 rifles, so supply is straightforward. Because this is a California Compliant SKU we are not publishing a supplied capacity; send us a message and we will confirm what this configuration comes with.

Q: What does the 4-Bolt Connection System change?

A: It attaches the handguard to the upper receiver without a conventional barrel nut, increasing the surface area of the joint. On an AR-10 pattern rifle, where the front end is usually the limiting factor for consistency, that added rigidity and stability is one of the DD5’s defining features.

Q: Is this 7.62 DD5 V4 legal in California?

A: We cannot say that it is. Daniel Defense builds this SKU as a California Compliant configuration, but requirements change and are applied differently by locality.

Q: Does it have to go through an FFL?

A: Yes. Every firearm is transferred through a licensed FFL.
