Gunsmithing and Firearm Repair at Western Sport

Western Sport has in-house gunsmiths available for trigger installation, sight work, barrel threading, Cerakote finishing, and general firearm repair. Our lead gunsmith is Lance Rankin — an AR-15 and AR-10 specialist with years of experience in everything from basic maintenance to custom builds.

Common services we handle: trigger replacement and installation, barrel threading for suppressor use, sight installation and zeroing, bolt-on stock and accessory installation, Cerakote finishing for corrosion protection and custom color, and general diagnosis for malfunctioning firearms.

Call (817) 393-4000 to discuss your specific work and get a current estimate on turnaround time and cost. Most routine installations can be done in the same visit if you call ahead and we are not backed up with other work.

Trigger installation is the service we do most often — dropping in a Geissele, Rise, or Timney trigger into an AR-15 lower, setting timing, and confirming function before returning it to the customer. Most drop-in cassette triggers take less than an hour. Standard mil-spec trigger group installations take less time.

Barrel threading for suppressor use requires the barrel to have enough steel at the muzzle to cut threads without compromising barrel wall thickness. Most factory barrels thread without issue. We cut standard 1/2×28 threads for .224 caliber and 5/8×24 threads for .308 caliber. Bring in your barrel or complete upper and we can assess it on the spot.

Cerakote application requires disassembly, media blasting to bare metal, and heat curing. Turnaround time varies by current workload — call ahead to get a current estimate. We do single-color and multi-color patterns. Colors are mixed in-house from the full Cerakote H-Series and E-Series lines.
