Product Description

The Daniel Defense DD5 V4 Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor is a semi-automatic rifle with an 18" barrel on the DD5 platform, finished in Mil-Spec+ Cerakote and built by Daniel Defense as a California Compliant SKU, part number 02-158-20057-055.

6.5 Creedmoor in a gas gun is a different proposition from .308. The cartridge fires long, high-ballistic-coefficient bullets that retain velocity and resist wind far better than typical .308 loads, from the same magazine footprint and with less recoil. Past six hundred yards that shows up as smaller wind calls and more first-round hits. You pay in ammunition cost, fewer hunting loads, and shorter barrel life.

The rifle around it is the DD5, and the platform is the reason to buy Daniel Defense in this calibre. A 4-Bolt Connection System joins barrel to upper receiver without a barrel nut, increasing joint surface area for rigidity and stability — exactly what a precision semi-automatic needs. The bolt carrier group is superfinished and DLC coated with a carrier buffer, and the bolt has enhanced extractor geometry and dual ejectors. Controls are fully ambidextrous and it feeds SR-25 pattern magazines. Mil-Spec+ Cerakote adds surface hardness and corrosion resistance.

What we will confirm before you order

Calibre, barrel length, model, finish and compliance class are verified for this part number. Twist rate, barrel profile, gas system, rail length, muzzle device and weight are not — and in 6.5 Creedmoor twist rate determines which bullet weights the rifle will stabilise, so a guess is worse than useless.

California Compliant configuration

Daniel Defense builds this SKU as a California Compliant DD5 V4. Compliance requirements change and are applied differently from one locality to another, so treat nothing here as a statement about legality at your address.

6.5 Creedmoor at 18 inches

An 18" barrel is short for 6.5 Creedmoor by precision-rifle standards, and it is a deliberate trade: some velocity given up against a 20" barrel, in exchange for a rifle that handles in the field. Because 6.5 bullets hold velocity so well, the loss matters less than it would in .308. For the velocity back, Daniel Defense builds the DD5 V5 at 20". Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why choose 6.5 Creedmoor over 7.62 NATO in a DD5?

A: Ballistics. 6.5 Creedmoor fires long, high-ballistic-coefficient bullets that hold velocity and resist wind better than typical .308 loads, with less recoil and the same magazine footprint. Past six hundred yards that means smaller wind calls and more first-round hits. You pay in ammunition cost and barrel life.

Q: What twist rate does this 6.5 Creedmoor barrel use?

A: We do not have a verified figure for this part number, and we will not guess — in 6.5 Creedmoor, twist rate determines which bullet weights the rifle will stabilise, so an approximation is actively misleading.

Q: Is an 18-inch barrel too short for 6.5 Creedmoor?

A: It is shorter than a dedicated precision rifle would use, and it costs some velocity. But because 6.5 bullets retain velocity so well downrange, the penalty matters less than the same loss would in .308, and you keep a rifle that is practical to carry and shoot in the field.

Q: Will it take standard 6.5 Creedmoor magazines?

A: It accepts SR-25 pattern magazines, which is the standard for AR-10 type rifles in both .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor. Because this is a California Compliant SKU we are not publishing a supplied capacity; send us a message and we will confirm what this configuration includes.

Q: Does Mil-Spec+ change anything mechanically?

A: No. Mil-Spec+ is a Cerakote finish over the receivers and rail that adds surface hardness and corrosion resistance beyond anodizing alone, and gives the rifle a grey-green cast. The barrel, action and controls are the same as the standard-finish DD5 V4 in this calibre.

Q: Is this 6.5 Creedmoor DD5 V4 legal in California?

A: We cannot tell you that. Daniel Defense builds this SKU as a California Compliant configuration, but requirements change and vary by locality. Confirm the current rules for your own jurisdiction with a competent source before ordering, and send us a message with questions about the rifle.
