The Daniel Defense 10.3″ Cold Hammer Forged Barrel with Low Profile Gas Block is a 5.56mm NATO, 1:7 twist, Government-profile barrel on a carbine-length gas system, configured so a free-float handguard can extend over the gas block instead of terminating at a front sight tower.

This is the configuration for a modern short gun. With the gas block sitting low under the handguard, you can run a continuous M-LOK tube from the receiver almost to the muzzle, keep one unbroken top rail for an optic and a folding front sight, and mount a light or laser tight to the bore line.

Ten point three inches is a deliberate compromise. You lose velocity against every longer barrel, and the carbine-length gas system on so short a tube runs at high port pressure with minimal dwell, which makes the gun sensitive to buffer weight, spring rate and ammunition choice.
