The Kershaw Lateral 1645BLKST is an assisted-opening folding knife with a 3.1″ blade. It is part of the Lateral series. The blade is 8Cr13MoV steel with a black oxide finish and a thickness of 0.11″.

The blade is a drop point with a recurve, and the edge is partially serrated. That gives you a plain section for clean slicing and a serrated section for rope, strap and tougher fibers. Jimping on the blade gives your thumb a place to rest while you work.

How it opens and locks

Kershaw uses its SpeedSafe assisted opening system here. You press the flipper, and the spring assist finishes the job. A liner lock holds the blade open. The handle is glass filled nylon, which keeps the knife light at 3.2 oz. It measures 4.3″ closed and 7.4″ open, so it carries easily.
