Rankin Industries Muzzle Device 3 prong

Product Description

The Rankin Industries Muzzle Device 3 prong is a flash suppressor designed for AR-platform rifles, manufactured by Rankin Industries and sold through Western Sport.

A three-prong flash hider directs expanding gas in a pattern that disrupts the fireball signature at the muzzle. This design has been used on military rifles for decades because it balances flash reduction with minimal added weight.

It fits standard AR-15 and AR-10 upper assemblies.

What a 3 Prong Flash Hider Does

A three-prong design splits muzzle gas into discrete channels as it exits the bore. The prongs create turbulence that cools and disperses combustion gases before they ignite in open air. This reduces visible flash, especially in low light.

Three-prong flash hiders also act as a mounting surface for some suppressor quick-attach systems. If you plan to add a suppressor later, confirm compatibility with your specific can before purchase.

Fitment and Installation

This muzzle device threads onto the barrel of an AR-pattern upper receiver. Thread pitch and barrel profile should be confirmed before installation. Send us a message if you need help verifying fit for your specific upper.

Proper installation requires a crush washer or shim set to achieve correct timing, where the prongs orient in the intended position. Incorrect timing can affect both function and appearance. Western Sport offers gunsmithing services if you prefer professional installation and headspace verification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What thread pitch does the Rankin Industries 3 prong muzzle device use?

A: Thread pitch is not specified in the product listing. Send us a message to confirm thread pitch and barrel compatibility before ordering.

Q: Will this 3 prong flash hider work with my suppressor?

A: Some suppressor manufacturers design quick-attach mounts that index on three-prong flash hiders, but compatibility varies by brand and model. Confirm fitment with your suppressor’s manufacturer or send us a message for guidance.

Q: Does this muzzle device require timing during installation?

A: Yes, three-prong flash hiders must be timed so the prongs align correctly with the top of the barrel. This typically requires a crush washer, peel washer, or precision shim kit. Western Sport offers gunsmithing services if you prefer professional installation.

Q: How does a 3 prong flash hider compare to a birdcage flash hider?

A: Both designs reduce muzzle flash by disrupting gas flow. Three-prong hiders tend to offer slightly better flash suppression and a cleaner sight picture in low light. Birdcage designs are lighter and simpler to time. The difference in performance is modest for most shooters.

Q: Can I install this muzzle device myself?

A: You can install a muzzle device at home if you have a barrel vise, action block, and armorer’s wrench. Proper torque and timing are critical for safety and function. If you lack the tools or experience, Western Sportprovides installation and timing services.

Q: Is the Rankin Industries 3 prong muzzle device legal in Texas?

A: Yes, flash hiders are legal to own and install in Texas on non-NFA firearms. No additional paperwork or transfer requirements apply to this muzzle device. Send us a message if you have questions about compliance in your area.
