Product Description
The Magpul MBUS Pro front sight (MAG275) is an all-steel backup iron sight that mounts to any MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny or STANAG 4694 rail and flips up to standard AR sight height when deployed. Magpul designed this front sight to provide a low-profile backup sighting solution that stays out of the way when folded and locks positively when raised.
The MBUS Pro series uses steel construction instead of polymer to handle the higher heat and abuse near gas blocks and to survive hard use on duty rifles. The elevation knob adjusts without tools, which matters when you need to zero quickly or confirm settings in the field.
This front sight works well with optics that allow lower-third or absolute co-witness setups. When your red dot fails or your LPVO is dialed to high magnification, the MBUS Pro flips up and gives you fast-acquisition irons at the height you trained with.
Key Facts
- Construction: All-steel, case hardened and finished with a ferritic nitrocarburizing process for extreme resistance to wear and corrosion
- Mounting: Fits any MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny/STANAG 4694 rail including receiver-height gas blocks
- Sight Height: Standard AR sight height when deployed
- Stowed Dimensions: 1.6″ length, maximum 0.43″ height above rail
- Weight: 1.51 oz. with hardware
- Adjustment: Elevation knob requires no tools; positive detents in both up and down positions and on the elevation knob
Gas Block and Rail Compatibility
The MBUS Pro front sight mounts directly to receiver-height gas blocks that have a Picatinny rail section on top. This eliminates the need for a separate front sight tower and keeps the sight at the correct height for co-witnessing with most optics.
If your gas block does not have a rail, you can mount this sight to the handguard rail as long as the handguard extends far enough forward. The sight clamps to any standard Picatinny or STANAG 4694 rail with the included hardware.
Why All-Steel Construction Matters
Polymer backup sights work well in most positions, but a front sight sits close to the barrel and gas system where heat builds up during rapid fire. Steel handles that heat without warping or losing zero.
The ferritic nitrocarburizing process hardens the steel surface and creates a corrosion-resistant layer that holds up to sweat, rain, and solvent exposure. This finish is more durable than standard bluing or phosphate coatings.
Tool-Free Elevation Adjustment
The elevation knob on the MBUS Pro front sight clicks into positive detents without requiring a front sight adjustment tool or screwdriver. You turn the knob by hand to raise or lower the point of impact during zeroing.
Each detent represents a small, predictable shift in elevation. Once zeroed, the detents prevent the knob from drifting out of adjustment due to vibration or impact.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the Magpul MBUS Pro front sight fit any Picatinny rail?
A: Yes, the MBUS Pro front sight mounts to any MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny or STANAG 4694 rail, including receiver-height gas blocks with integrated rail sections. The sight clamps securely with the included mounting hardware.
Q: What is the difference between MBUS and MBUS Pro sights?
A: MBUS sights use polymer construction while MBUS Pro sights are all-steel with a case-hardened, ferritic nitrocarburized finish. The MBUS Pro is heavier but more resistant to heat and impact, which makes it better suited for mounting near gas blocks or for hard-use applications.
Q: Can I adjust the MBUS Pro front sight without tools?
A: Yes, the elevation adjustment knob turns by hand and uses positive detents to lock into place. No front sight tool or screwdriver is required for zeroing or making elevation changes.
Q: Will this front sight co-witness with my red dot or LPVO?
A: The MBUS Pro deploys to standard AR sight height, which allows lower-third co-witness with most red dots on standard-height mounts and absolute co-witness with lower mounts. For confirmation with your specific optic and mount combination, send us a message.
Q: How low does the MBUS Pro front sight fold when not in use?
A: When stowed, the MBUS Pro front sight measures a maximum of 0.43 inches above the rail and 1.6 inches in length. This low profile clears most optic bodies and does not obstruct the field of view through scopes or holographic sights.
Q: Is the Magpul MBUS Pro front sight durable enough for duty use?
A: The all-steel construction and ferritic nitrocarburizing finish provide extreme resistance to wear and corrosion, and the positive detents prevent the sight from folding or losing zero under recoil or impact. These features make the MBUS Pro suitable for duty rifles, defensive carbines, and other hard-use applications.
