Product Description

Update, October 9, 2026: ATF no longer requires a Form 4, tax stamp, fingerprints or registration for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns or AOWs. They now transfer on a standard Form 4473 with a background check. Anything below that mentions a Form 4, a wait or a tax stamp was written before this change. What changed

The Q Half Nelson 7.62 DT 5/8×24 delivers professional-grade sound suppression in a compact, direct-thread package engineered for precision rifle shooters. Rated at approximately 28 dB sound reduction, this titanium suppressor combines Q LLC’s aerospace engineering heritage with proven 7.62mm efficiency—ideal for .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, and other common rifle calibers. Built in the USA by the team that revolutionized the suppressor industry, the Half Nelson represents three decades of silencer design expertise in an ultralight 8 oz platform.

Q LLC Suppressor Heritage

Q was founded by Kevin Brittingham, the visionary behind Advanced Armament Corp (AAC)—widely recognized as one of the most respected suppressor manufacturers in history. After establishing AAC’s reputation for precision and innovation, Brittingham launched Q to push suppressor technology even further, combining aerospace-grade titanium and stainless steel with Swiss-level tolerances. Every Q suppressor is manufactured in-house at their Claremont, New Hampshire facility, ensuring quality control that mass-market competitors cannot match.

Performance & Engineering

The Half Nelson strikes the ideal balance between Q’s quietest full-length suppressor (the Full Nelson) and the need for a truly portable platform. At 5.5 inches, this direct-thread design fits standard hunting rifles, tactical carbines, and precision bolt guns without excessive length or swing-weight. The compact footprint makes Half Nelson an excellent choice for hunters using traditional stock configurations or shooters who prioritize maneuverability. Its ~28 dB reduction is substantial enough to protect hearing and reduce report signatures without sacrificing the suppressor’s structural integrity or serviceability.

Constructed from aerospace-grade titanium and stainless steel, the Half Nelson withstands sustained firing, magnum calibers, and environmental exposure. The bead-blasted finish resists fingerprints and provides a low-profile appearance across hunting and tactical applications. Unlike some competitors’ modular designs, Q’s direct-thread suppressors integrate all components into a single, field-proven assembly—meaning zero parts to lose, fewer sealing surfaces to fail, and reduced maintenance overhead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does ~28 dB sound reduction mean for hearing protection?

A: Approximately 28 dB of sound reduction brings a typical 7.62mm rifle report (160–170 dB) down to roughly 132–142 dB—still loud, but significantly safer for unprotected ears. Most hearing experts recommend doubling up (suppressor + ear protection) for sustained shooting. The Half Nelson is highly effective for hunting and tactical use where hearing protection is primary.

Q: Is the Half Nelson better than the Full Nelson, or vice versa?

A: Both are direct-thread 7.62 suppressors made by Q. The Full Nelson is longer and delivers maximum sound reduction in Q’s lineup. The Half Nelson is compact (5.5 inches) and lighter (8 oz), making it ideal for standard hunting rifles and shooters who prioritize maneuverability. Choose Half Nelson if portability matters; choose Full Nelson if you want the absolute quietest option and don’t mind extra length.

Q: What is Western Sport’s SOT dealer advantage, and how much do I save?

A: Western Sport is a licensed SOT (Special Occupational Tax) dealer, which means you pay $0 federal NFA tax stamps on suppressors purchased through our SOT transfer. Standard civilian purchases incur a $200 tax stamp per suppressor. You still register the suppressor via Form 4 (about two weeks or less typical), but you eliminate the $200 federal excise tax—a significant savings on your purchase.

Q: How long does NFA registration take, and what do I need to do?

A: NFA suppressors require ATF Form 4 registration (or eForm 4 in some jurisdictions), which varies — see our NFA wait times guide for current figures for approval. You’ll provide your fingerprints, serial number, and pass a background check. Western Sport handles all dealer paperwork and will guide you through the process. Once approved, you take physical possession.

Buying a suppressor now: a Form 4473 and a background check. No Form 4.

Since October 9, 2026, ATF no longer requires a Form 4, tax stamp, fingerprints, photos or registration to buy a suppressor. It transfers like any other firearm: you fill out a Form 4473, pass a NICS background check, and it is yours. No months-long wait.

  • Texas buyers: suppressors are legal under Texas law. Western Sport has been an SOT / Class III dealer since 2007.
  • Outside Texas: we ship to an SOT dealer in your state, who completes the 4473 with you. Your state’s law still decides — some states ban suppressors, and some only allow ones registered with ATF.
  • Want it registered anyway? ATF still accepts a voluntary Form 4. Ask us.
