When you start diving into the world of hammer-fired carry guns, the CZ Shadow 2 Carry often sits at the top of the list. But what happens when you pit that premium metal frame against a budget-friendly polymer pistol reworked by Langdon Tactical? We headed to Thunder Ranch to find out.
The contenders: CZ Shadow 2 Carry and LTT P-09 Nocturne
On one side of the ring, we have the CZ Shadow 2 Carry. It is an aluminum-framed, 9mm DA/SA pistol that feels like it was pulled straight from the competition circuit. You can feel the quality when you pick it up; it has that heavy, precise, “Rolex” feel that metal-frame enthusiasts crave. It carries 15+1 rounds and comes with a premium price tag to match its pedigree.
On the other, we have the LTT P-09 Nocturne. This is essentially a budget-friendly polymer CZ that has been treated by Ernest Langdon’s shop. With the Level 2 package, featuring Cajun Gun Works internals and a tuned trigger, this gun aims to punch way above its weight class. It feels lighter and, surprisingly, offers a trigger experience that rivals or even exceeds the Shadow in some ways.
The data at the range
We brought out three experienced shooters to put both guns through a rigorous 40-round drill, shooting at 5, 10, 15, and 25 yards. We wanted to move past just simple hit counts and measure efficiency using a “points per second” metric.

While the Shadow 2 squeaked out a win in raw accuracy, the results were closer than we expected. Every shooter was faster with the Langdon-tuned P-09. Over the course of the drill, the P-09 was over 11 seconds faster, which is a massive margin in a controlled environment.
CZ Shadow 2 Carry or Nocturne: which one comes out on top?
Ultimately, deciding between these two comes down to what you value most. If you want a gun that feels like an heirloom, the Shadow 2 is hard to beat. It is a classy, well-fitted instrument that shoots exactly how you expect a high-end pistol to shoot.
However, if your priority is pure performance and efficiency, the LTT P-09 Nocturne is the clear winner for many scenarios. It is lighter, faster to run, and when you look at the street price, you are saving hundreds of dollars that could be put toward optics, ammunition, or range time. It really proved that you don’t necessarily need a high-end metal frame to achieve world-class defensive performance.
