Product Description

The Ambi 3-Position Forced Reset Selector is a drop-in, ambidextrous AR-15 “super safety.” It replaces your factory safety selector and adds a third position that forces your existing trigger to reset after every shot, so you get fast, one-round-per-pull semi-auto fire without replacing your fire control group. Three positions: Safe, Semi and Super-Semi. Most builders install it in a few minutes with no permanent modification, and it ships to your door with no FFL.

  • What it is: our own unbranded ambidextrous 3-position forced reset selector (“3 position super safety”) for the AR-15.
  • Positions: Safe, Semi (standard) and Super-Semi (forced reset). One round per trigger pull.
  • Build: heat-treated 4140 steel, corrosion-resistant black nitride, 90-degree throw with positive detents.
  • What it fits: mil-spec AR-15 lowers in .223/5.56 and .300 BLK with a mil-spec single-stage or cassette trigger that has no relief cut.
  • What your rifle needs: a full-profile (M16) bolt carrier and an H2 or H3 buffer for reliable resets.
  • Ordering: a part, not a firearm. No FFL, ships to your door in states we can ship to.

How it works: three positions, one selector

  • Safe: a traditional, positive safety.
  • Semi: standard semi-automatic fire, exactly like a factory selector.
  • Super-Semi (forced reset): uses the bolt carrier’s cycling energy to drive the trigger back to its reset point, so your follow-up shot is ready the instant you are.

Because it works off the safety selector rather than the trigger group, installation is genuinely drop-in: no new trigger, hammer or disconnector, and nothing permanent done to a standard mil-spec lower.

Our own selector

This is our own product. It is built for us by a specialist manufacturer and sold without a brand name, which keeps the price down. It works on the same three-position forced reset principle as other forced reset selectors, but it is not an Atrius product.

Field-tested by our team

We don’t just list this part — we built a rifle around it and put it to work at the ranch. After real-world field testing, we can tell you it runs exactly as advertised: smooth, consistent resets, positive detents in every position, and rock-solid reliability round after round. It’s an excellent piece of hardware, and it earned its spot on our shelf the hard way.

Compatibility

Built for full-profile, mil-spec AR-15 fire control groups. It works best with mil-spec single-stage and cassette-style triggers that do not have a relief cut or U-notch in the trigger bar. For a reliable forced reset your rifle should also have:

Running a specialty trigger, such as a reduced-hammer Geissele? The Atrius G-Lever is made for Geissele SSA, SSA-E and G2S triggers. Otherwise, send us a message before ordering and we will help you confirm the fit.

A quick history of forced reset technology

Forced reset designs grew out of a simple goal: let a semi-automatic rifle cycle as fast as the shooter can pull the trigger, while still firing only one round per pull. Early forced reset triggers (FRTs) replaced the entire trigger group. Those devices became the center of a long legal fight, and in May 2025 the U.S. Department of Justice settled its litigation with Rare Breed Triggers. The forced reset selector, often called a “super safety,” achieves the reset through the safety selector instead, keeping your existing trigger in place. How ordering works

Western Sport has been a licensed FFL/SOT dealer since 2007. This selector is a part, so it ships to your door with no FFL transfer. When it shows as available on backorder you can still order, and it ships when the next stock arrives. Every address is checked against our restricted-state list before it ships.

Ambi 3-position forced reset selector FAQ

Is this an Atrius forced reset selector?

No. It is Western Sport’s own unbranded selector. It looks and works much like other ambidextrous forced reset selectors, including Atrius models, but it is not made or sold by Atrius. If you want an Atrius, we carry the Atrius Forced Reset Selector, Mil-Spec Ambi and G-Lever.

What is a 3 position super safety?

It is a forced reset selector: an AR-15 safety selector with a third position. Safe and Semi work normally; in the third position the bolt carrier’s cycling forces the trigger to reset after every shot. You still pull the trigger once per round.

Is a forced reset selector the same as an FRT?

It does the same job a different way. A forced reset trigger (FRT) replaces the whole trigger group; a forced reset selector replaces only the safety and works with your existing compatible trigger. Both fire one round per pull.

What bolt carrier and buffer do I need?

A full-profile (M16) bolt carrier group and an H2 or H3 buffer give the most reliable resets. Semi-auto carriers with a cut-away bottom generally will not reset the trigger.

Will it work with my trigger?

It is built for mil-spec single-stage and cassette-style triggers whose trigger bar has no relief cut or U-notch. Reduced-hammer Geissele triggers need a model made for them, such as the Atrius G-Lever.

Is a 3 position forced reset selector legal?

It fires one round per function of the trigger, and forced reset devices that do so are not being treated as machine guns at the federal level after the May 2025 DOJ settlement with Rare Breed Triggers. Several states restrict them; we do not ship to CA, CO, CT, DE, DC, FL, HI, IL, IA, MD, MA, MN, NV, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VA or WA. This is not legal advice.

It is the buyer’s responsibility to know and follow all federal, state, and local laws before purchasing or installing this product.
