⚠ SUPPRESSOR — NO FORM 4 REQUIRED
Since October 9, 2026, ATF no longer requires a Form 4, tax stamp, fingerprints, photos or registration for suppressors. It transfers like any other firearm: a Form 4473 and a NICS background check. Buyer must be 21 or older and allowed to own a suppressor under their state’s law. Outside Texas, we ship to an SOT dealer in your state. What changed · How buying one works now

The Barrett AML338 is Barrett’s .338 Lapua Magnum suppressor — an Advanced Muzzle Loading suppressor designed for Barrett’s MRAD .338 and MRAD SMR platforms. .338 Lapua Magnum produces more chamber pressure and energy than .308 Winchester; the AML338 is engineered to the same margin of safety Barrett applies to its rifle barrels. “AML” stands for Advanced Muzzle Loading — Barrett’s direct-thread suppressor system. The AML338 brings the same engineering philosophy that produced the QDL 50 BMG suppressor to the .338 Lapua precision rifle market: a suppressor built by the rifle manufacturer, for the rifle they built, at the quality standard that Barrett’s name demands.

The AML338 is the standard model in Barrett’s .338 suppressor lineup. For shooters running a Barrett MRAD in .338 Lapua who want a factory-matched suppressor — one designed by the same engineers who built the MRAD’s barrel, action, and trigger — the Barrett AML338 is the unambiguous choice. Suppressor manufacturers who haven’t built the MRAD are estimating when they say their product is compatible; Barrett knows exactly what the MRAD needs.

FAQ — Barrett AML338 .338

Is the Barrett AML338 compatible with non-Barrett .338 rifles?

The AML338 uses Barrett’s specific muzzle threading. Compatibility with non-Barrett .338 platforms depends on whether the barrel has matching thread pitch. Send us a message to confirm compatibility with your specific rifle.

Does suppressing a .338 Lapua make a meaningful difference?

Yes — .338 Lapua produces significant muzzle blast and concussion. A well-matched suppressor like the Barrett AML338 reduces the sound level by 25–35 dB, significantly lowering hearing damage risk for the shooter and nearby personnel, while also reducing muzzle flash and improving shooter follow-up. It will not make .338 hearing-safe, but it is a meaningful improvement in practical shooting comfort and observer safety.

Buying a suppressor now: a Form 4473 and a background check. No Form 4.

Since October 9, 2026, ATF no longer requires a Form 4, tax stamp, fingerprints, photos or registration to buy a suppressor. It transfers like any other firearm: you fill out a Form 4473, pass a NICS background check, and it is yours. No months-long wait.

  • Texas buyers: suppressors are legal under Texas law. Western Sport has been an SOT / Class III dealer since 2007.
  • Outside Texas: we ship to an SOT dealer in your state, who completes the 4473 with you. Your state’s law still decides — some states ban suppressors, and some only allow ones registered with ATF.
  • Want it registered anyway? ATF still accepts a voluntary Form 4. Ask us.
