What Makes the B-14 Wilderness HMR Different
- Integrated aluminum mini-chassis bedding. The HMR’s molded composite stock wraps an aluminum mini-chassis that delivers match-grade consistency without the weight or cost of a full precision chassis. Every shot launches from the same platform.
- Full Sniper Grey Cerakote protection. Unlike rifles with partial coatings, the Wilderness HMR protects barrel, action, and all hardware in hard-anodized Cerakote—you get extreme corrosion resistance in rain, snow, salt, and sweat without sacrificing a pound.
- Bergara Omni Muzzle Brake included. The included brake reduces recoil and improves follow-up shot speed in the field—critical when a second opportunity won’t come again. It’s threaded 5/8×24 for easy aftermarket suppressor swaps.
- Remington 700 footprint action with a stronger design. The B-14 action uses the world’s largest aftermarket ecosystem (R700 pattern stocks, triggers, mounts, chassis) but features a stronger bolt stop, coned bolt nose for smooth feeding, and a two-lug system proven in competition and combat use.
- Adjustable cheekpiece and length-of-pull spacers. You dial in the fit that works for your body, optics, and shooting position—no gunsmith needed. Comfortable rifles shoot better rifles.
- Bergara Performance Trigger adjustable by you. Factory-set to a crisp 3–3.5 lbs, but you can adjust from 2 to 4 lbs with an Allen key. No guesswork, no trip to a gunsmith.
Bergara’s Barrel Story
Bergara isn’t just a rifle company—it’s a town in the Basque region of northern Spain with centuries of gunmaking heritage. For decades, Bergara manufactured precision barrels for the world’s top-tier firearms makers, building a global reputation for consistency that begins with their five-step barrel process: straightening, deep-hole drilling, three-spindle diamond honing to a mirror finish, button rifling with carbide buttons held to less than .0002″ groove diameter deviation, and high-temperature stress relieving. This process eliminates stress points and harmonics that cause rifle-to-rifle variation. The result is a production barrel that shoots like a hand-lapped custom at production prices. Every Bergara rifle carries a factory sub-MOA accuracy guarantee—backed by a team in Georgia that includes former USMC Precision Weapons Section alumni who built rifles for Marines in combat and competition.
7mm Remington Magnum: A Caliber Built for Distance and Elk
The 7mm Rem Mag sits in the sweet spot between velocity, accuracy, and recoil. It drives quality bullets over 3,000 fps—fast enough for effective long-range performance out to 400+ yards without the full .30 Mag blast. For elk, mule deer, and long-range mountain hunting, the 7mm Mag delivers flat trajectories and retained energy that few other off-the-shelf cartridges match. Ammunition is widely available, and handloaders have decades of load data. In the Wilderness HMR, that velocity translates to sub-MOA groups out of the box.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the trigger safe for hunting?
Yes. The Bergara Performance Trigger is factory-set to a crisp 3–3.5 lbs, and it’s adjustable down to 2 lbs if you prefer lighter. At factory settings, it’s completely safe for field use—crisp breaks with no creep or overtravel. It matches the feel of upgraded aftermarket triggers at a fraction of the cost. If you want a heavier trigger for hunting safety, you can adjust it up to 4 lbs in minutes with an Allen key.
What’s the difference between the HMR and the standard B-14 Wilderness?
The HMR adds an integrated aluminum mini-chassis inside the stock for enhanced bedding consistency and accuracy improvement. If you’re serious about precision—whether for long-range hunting or backcountry shooting where wind and distance matter—the HMR is the better choice. The standard Wilderness line is excellent for general hunting, but the HMR’s engineering is worth the investment if you want to shoot groups, not just deer.
Can I use this rifle with my existing Remington 700 stock or chassis?
Yes. The B-14 action is built on the Remington 700 footprint, so it accepts all R700-pattern stocks, chassis, triggers, and scope mounts. Your aftermarket ecosystem is enormous. That said, the HMR stock with mini-chassis is engineered specifically for this action and delivers match-grade bedding straight from the box—we recommend keeping it.
What scope mounting options do I have?
The rifle accepts standard Remington 700 two-piece bases and rings. We recommend quality Leupold, Nightforce, or Vortex bases for long-range work. The 24″ barrel and 7mm Mag will handle high-magnification scopes; for backcountry hunting, a 3-9×40 or 4-12×44 is ideal, but extended-range hunters often go 4-16×50 or 5-25×56. Call us and we’ll discuss your intended use.
How much recoil does the 7mm Rem Mag generate in this rifle?
At 9.5–10.1 lbs, the Wilderness HMR is a solid rifle, and the included Bergara Omni Muzzle Brake reduces recoil noticeably—roughly 20–25% compared to an unbraked barrel. The brake directs gas forward, softening felt recoil and improving follow-up shot speed. If you’re recoil-sensitive, the brake is essential. If you plan to hunt in a region that bans brakes, we can discuss suppressor options instead.
Why choose 7mm Rem Mag over .300 Win Mag?
Both are excellent long-range cartridges. The 7mm Rem Mag is slightly flatter and lighter recoiling while still delivering energy for elk and mountain game. If you hunt primarily mule deer or elk at distances under 500 yards, the 7mm Mag offers faster follow-ups and is easier on your shoulder. The .300 WM carries slightly more energy at extreme distances (600+ yards). For most mountain hunting, the 7mm Mag is the smarter choice.
What kind of accuracy can I expect?
Bergara guarantees sub-MOA accuracy out of the box—that means groups under 1 inch at 100 yards with quality factory ammunition. In real-world testing, the HMR consistently shoots 0.5–0.75 MOA with premium factory loads like Hornady Precision Hunter or Federal Premium. With hand-loaded ammunition tailored to your barrel, many shooters see 0.3–0.5 MOA groups. Your accuracy also depends on scope quality, ammunition, and shooter skill.
Is the rifle left-hand or right-hand?
This model is right-hand action. If you are left-handed, send us a message to discuss left-hand options in the Bergara lineup or alternative solutions.
