Product Description

The Bergara B-14 Hunter in 7mm Rem Mag is purpose-built for serious hunters who refuse to compromise between accuracy and packability. At under 7.3 lbs, this is the lightest centerfire B-14 in the lineup—a rifle that won’t punish you on a long walk-in hunt yet still delivers sub-MOA accuracy straight from the box. The No. 4 taper barrel profile shaves weight without sacrificing the ballistic performance that makes 7mm Mag a legend for elk, moose, and long-range deer hunting across North America.

What Makes the B-14 Hunter Different

  • Remington 700 Footprint: Built on the B-14 action with the world’s largest bolt-action aftermarket ecosystem. Drop it into any R700-pattern stock, chassis, or trigger—upgrade potential is limitless without custom work.
  • No. 4 Taper Barrel: A lighter profile than heavier hunting rifles, the No. 4 taper maintains accuracy at practical hunting distances (under 400 yards for most game) while keeping total rifle weight under 7.3 lbs. This matters when you’re hiking 8 miles into elk country.
  • Sub-MOA Guarantee at Hunting Prices: Bergara backs every rifle with a factory sub-MOA accuracy guarantee. You’re not paying precision-rifle prices for sub-MOA performance—you’re buying a hunting rifle that happens to shoot like one.
  • Bergara Performance Trigger: User-adjustable from 2 to 4 lbs with an Allen key—no gunsmith, no waiting. Factory-set around 3–3.5 lbs, it’s crisp and on par with most aftermarket triggers costing $150+ more.

Bergara’s Barrel Story

Bergara’s heritage runs deep in the Basque region of Spain, a gunmaking center for centuries. Their 5-step barrel manufacturing process—straightening, deep-hole drilling, three-spindle diamond honing to a mirror finish, button rifling with carbide buttons held to less than .0002″ groove diameter deviation, and high-temperature stress relieving—produces barrels that rival hand-lapped customs at production prices. Every B-14 Hunter barrel is stress-relieved to eliminate wandering zero, drilled with mechanical precision, and honed to a mirror finish. That’s why you get sub-MOA accuracy out of the box, not after 50 rounds of break-in.

7mm Rem Mag: Why This Caliber Matters

The 7mm Remington Magnum is the thinking hunter’s magnum round. It splits the difference between the 30-06 Springfield (heavier recoil, more drop at distance) and the 308 Winchester (less wind-bucking energy for big game at 300+ yards). With modern ammunition, a quality 7mm Mag like this one will cleanly take elk and moose at 400 yards, shoot flatter than a 30-06 to 600 yards, and recoil less than a 300 Win Mag. The 24″ barrel gives you maximum velocity—roughly 3,100 fps with 160-grain loads—without excessive blast or the need for a muzzle brake, which keeps the rifle light and suitable for a quiet field stalk.

The B-14 Action: Engineering for the Field

The B-14 action improves on the Remington 700 design in ways that matter. The coned bolt nose and breech system ensure smooth feeding and reliable extraction in adverse conditions—dirt, snow, extreme cold. The two-lug system provides the same lock-up strength as the classic three-lug but with less rotating mass, making the action faster and smoother to cycle. A stronger bolt stop (compared to the Remington 700) prevents wear from repeated cycling. The threaded oversized bolt knob comes standard, so you can swap it for an aftermarket knob without modification. Remington 700 footprint means you’re never locked into Bergara parts; you own the largest aftermarket ecosystem in bolt-action history.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 7mm Rem Mag overkill for whitetail deer?

Ballistically, yes—a 7mm Mag will shoot far flatter than you’ll ever need for whitetail. But here’s the practical angle: if you hunt multiple species (whitetail, elk, or mule deer across different terrain), one rifle in 7mm Mag covers everything. The recoil is manageable for most shooters, and modern ammunition gives you excellent bullet selection. If you hunt only whitetail and want less recoil and less blast, a 308 Winchester B-14 Hunter is a better choice—same rifle, different caliber, lighter kick.

What ammunition does the 24″ barrel shoot well?

The 24″ B-14 Hunter barrel is a no-frills hunting barrel: it shoots quality factory ammunition (Remington Core-Lokt, Winchester Power-Point, Federal Premium, Hornady, etc.) to sub-MOA accuracy straight from the box. It’s not a precision-rifle barrel optimized for one specific handload. Some shooters report excellent results with handloads, but Bergara’s guarantee is based on factory ammunition, and that’s what you should use for your first 20 rounds to verify accuracy. Expect 3,100+ fps with 160-grain loads in a 24″ tube.

Can I use this rifle with a suppressor or muzzle brake?

Yes. The B-14 Hunter’s barrel is not threaded from the factory, but any competent gunsmith can thread the muzzle to 5/8×24 or 9/16×24 (standard for magnum rifles) and crown it properly without affecting accuracy. Expect to pay $75–150 for professional threading. If you want a factory-threaded 7mm Mag B-14, look at the B-14 Ridge or Premier models, which come threaded. For a suppressor hunter, the Ridge is a better starting point than the sporter Hunter profile.

Does the 3-round magazine come standard?

Yes. Magazine capacity in the B-14 Hunter is 3 rounds for magnum calibers (7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, etc.) due to magazine box constraints. If magazine capacity is a concern, the B-14 Ridge comes with a 4-round detachable magazine system, but weighs more. For hunting, 3 rounds in the rifle and a spare magazine on your belt is standard practice—you’re not going into a hunt planning to fire more than 3–4 shots.

What makes Bergara’s accuracy guarantee different?

Bergara guarantees sub-MOA accuracy (≤1 MOA at 100 yards) with quality factory ammunition—no exceptions, no excuses. You get this out of the box, not after a break-in period or after you’ve handloaded for hours. The 5-step barrel process and stress relieving eliminate the variables that cause precision rifles to wander. If your rifle doesn’t meet the guarantee, Bergara services it or replaces it. Most shooters see 0.5–0.7 MOA groups with quality ammunition, but the guarantee floor is sub-MOA.

Is this rifle suitable for a long-range hunting course?

The B-14 Hunter is fundamentally a hunting rifle designed for field use and practical accuracy at hunting distances (under 400 yards). It’s not a precision-rifle platform like the B-14 Premier or a dedicated long-range caliber like 6.5 Creedmoor. That said, the 7mm Rem Mag is certainly capable to 600+ yards with proper ammunition and a quality scope, and the Remington 700 footprint means you can upgrade the trigger, stock, and optics to precision standards if you choose. Many hunters run the B-14 Hunter with premium glass (quality 3-9×40 or 2.5-10×42 scope) and handloads for extended-range work, and it performs beautifully.
