What Makes the B-14 Wilderness Sierra Different

  • Adjustable comb: Dial in perfect cheek weld height for your optic setup via Allen key—no new stock required. This single upgrade transforms how the rifle shoulders and shoots, especially as you change scopes or go from prone to field positions.
  • Fluted barrel for weight and heat management: The No. 5 taper fluted barrel sheds weight compared to a standard sporter profile while improving heat dissipation. At 22 inches, you get mid-range velocity in a handy package—ideal for hunters who cover country.
  • M5 bottom metal flexibility: Field-interchangeable between AICS detachable magazines and a traditional hinged floor plate. Hunt with a single magazine or swap to detachable mags for long-range work without buying a different rifle.
  • Sub-MOA accuracy guarantee straight from the box: Every Sierra Wilderness is tested to print under 1 inch at 100 yards with quality factory ammunition. You don’t have to hope—Bergara guarantees performance.
  • Remington 700 footprint: The B-14 action shares the world’s largest aftermarket ecosystem. Drop in any Rem 700 trigger, scope mount, or chassis if you ever want to evolve your rifle.
  • 300 PRC in a 7.4–7.7 lb package: The 300 PRC is a modern magnum that outperforms 300 Win Mag in velocity and efficiency. In a lightweight sporter, you get long-range lethality without the all-day carry penalty.

300 PRC: The Modern Long-Range Hunting Cartridge

The 300 PRC (Precision Rifle Cartridge) is built for shooters who want magnum velocity and energy without the recoil or barrel wear of a 338 or 300 Norma Mag. It shoots flatter, drifts less in wind, and retains energy at distance—exactly what mountain and open-country hunters need. Factory ammunition is now widely available, and reloaders love the case capacity and bullet selection. In a 22-inch barrel, you’ll see velocities around 2,850–2,950 fps with premium factory loads, giving you a usable hunting range well past 500 yards with modern optics and fieldcraft.

Bergara’s Barrel Legacy

Bergara is a town in Spain’s Basque region, a centuries-old gunmaking heartland. Bergara the company manufactures barrels for some of the world’s most respected firearms makers, and that expertise flows into every B-14. The 5-step process—straightening, deep-hole drilling, three-spindle diamond honing to a mirror polish, button rifling with carbide buttons held to less than .0002″ groove deviation, and high-temperature stress relieving—produces barrels that rival hand-lapped customs. The result: sub-MOA accuracy as standard, not exception.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 300 PRC overkill for deer or mid-sized game?

Not at all. The 300 PRC is efficient—it generates the energy of a 300 Win Mag but with less recoil and slower barrel wear. For deer, elk, and mountain game at distance, it’s ideal. For smaller game, it’s a choice; a 6.5 Creedmoor or 260 Remington would be lighter recoiling. But if you hunt varied game or want one rifle that reaches far, the 300 PRC is purpose-built.

Can I switch between AICS magazines and a hinged floor plate without a gunsmith?

Yes. The M5 bottom metal accepts both AICS detachable magazines and a traditional hinged floor plate, and the swap is field-interchangeable. You’ll need the appropriate floor plate or magazine well, but no gunsmithing. This makes the Sierra Wilderness flexible: hunt traditionally with a floor plate or go modular with detachables for long-range work.

What does the adjustable comb actually change about how the rifle shoots?

The adjustable comb lets you dial cheek weld height to match your scope’s height and your natural head position. A poor cheek weld forces your head down or up, which changes eye relief and sight picture—and costs accuracy. Once you dial the comb, your face finds the same position every time. It’s the single best upgrade to a hunting rifle’s ergonomics, and Bergara built it in.

Will I need to reload for the 300 PRC, or is factory ammo reliable?

Factory 300 PRC ammunition is widely available from major manufacturers. Hornady, Federal, and others offer quality loads in common bullet weights (180–225 gr). Reloading gives you flexibility and cost savings over time, but you don’t need to reload to shoot the 300 PRC effectively. Many hunters run factory loads exclusively and get great results.

What’s the effective hunting range of the 300 PRC with the 22-inch barrel?

With a 22-inch barrel and factory ammunition, you’ll see muzzle velocities around 2,850–2,950 fps depending on the load. From there, effective hunting range depends on bullet construction, your optic, and your skill at range estimation. Most hunters consider 500+ yards realistic with modern optics and good ammunition. Beyond that, you’re betting on wind calls and trajectory calculation—which is where the 300 PRC excels over smaller cartridges.

Does the fluted barrel affect accuracy or just save weight?

Fluting serves both purposes. Yes, it reduces weight—critical in a field rifle. But the grooves also improve heat dissipation, which helps the barrel cool between shots and maintain zero during rapid-fire strings. There’s a reason precision rifles often wear fluted barrels. Accuracy stays sub-MOA; you just shed weight and gain thermal management.

Is the Bergara Performance Trigger really adjustable without a gunsmith?

Yes. The trigger pulls adjust from 2 to 4 lbs using a simple Allen key on the outside of the trigger guard. Factory-set around 3–3.5 lbs, it’s already excellent. Most shooters never touch it, but if you want a lighter or heavier pull, you dial it yourself. It’s that simple.
