The Daniel Defense AR-15 Barrel Nut is the standard-pattern barrel nut for AR-15 and M16 upper receivers: the threaded collar that clamps the barrel’s extension flange against the receiver face and, on a mil-spec front end, carries the delta ring assembly that retains two-piece drop-in handguards.

The barrel nut does the most important mechanical job at the front of an AR-15. Torqued correctly, it holds the barrel extension squarely against the receiver so the bore stays aligned with the bolt and the gas tube stays aligned with the carrier key. Torqued badly, it produces problems that look like everything else: inconsistent accuracy, short-stroking, gas leaks, or a barrel that shifts under heat.
