Product Description

The Daniel Defense Armorer’s Tool Kit, DDM4, part number 28-088-10748, is an all-inclusive armorer’s tool kit for maintaining Daniel Defense DDM4 and DD4 rifles, built in partnership with several tool companies and packed with a parts list and torque values chart in a First Spear soft case. It is the DDM4 and DD4 platform kit; the separate combined kit adds the DD5-specific fixtures.

That platform question is the whole buying decision. Daniel Defense sells two armorer’s kits. This one covers DDM4 and DD4 rifles. The other, part number 28-088-17105, covers DDM4 and DD5 rifles and carries the DD5 URG-IR and DD5 Lower Receiver Vice Block along with a 100 in/lb Torque Limiter and 3/16 inch hex bits. Fixtures are not interchangeable between those platforms — that is the reason two kits exist rather than one. If your bench only ever sees DDM4 and DD4 rifles, this kit is complete for the job and you are not paying for fixtures you will never clamp a receiver into. If a DD5 might arrive, buy the combined kit the first time.

What separates a real armorer’s kit from a drawer of AR tools is that everything needed for a full strip and rebuild is present and correct at the same time: the right roll pin punches and roll pin holders, a brass hammer that will not mark a receiver, a bolt ejector tool, platform-specific receiver fixtures, a breaker bar with a proper barrel nut wrench, and torque limiters so that fasteners land on the numbers instead of somewhere near them. Most armourer mistakes are not exotic. They are a rounded pin, a marred receiver, a gas block clamped out of square, or a barrel nut torqued by feel.

DDM4 / DD4 kit or the combined DDM4 and DD5 kit?

Work backwards from the rifles you are responsible for.

  • Only DDM4 and DD4 rifles: this kit, part number 28-088-10748, is the correct and complete choice.
  • DDM4 and DD5 rifles: the combined kit, part number 28-088-17105, is the one you need. It carries the DD5 URG-IR, the DD5 Lower Receiver Vice Block, the 100 in/lb Torque Limiter and the 3/16 inch hex bits in addition to everything listed above.
  • Unsure: call 817-393-4000. Buying the smaller kit and then buying the DD5 fixtures separately is the expensive route.

Cross-shoppers usually look at our AR parts and upper receiver parts selection at the same time, along with cleaning equipment for the consumables that go with a strip and rebuild.

Using the torque chart properly

The Parts List and Torque Values Chart is the item most likely to change how your rifles behave. Torque limiters give you repeatability, but only against a figure, and the classic failures — a castle nut that backs off, a barrel nut torqued high enough to distort a receiver, a gas block clamped unevenly — all come from working without one. Keep the chart in the case rather than in a drawer, and check it even for the fasteners you think you know. If you want a second opinion on a specific assembly, our gunsmith is in the building and takes phone calls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the DDM4/DD4 armorer’s kit and the DDM4/DD5 kit?

A: Platform coverage. This kit, part number 28-088-10748, covers Daniel Defense DDM4 and DD4 rifles. The combined kit covers DDM4 and DD5 rifles and adds the DD5 URG-IR, the DD5 Lower Receiver Vice Block, the 100 in/lb Torque Limiter and the 3/16 inch hex bits. If a DD5 will ever land on your bench, buy the combined kit.

Q: Which rifles does this armorer’s tool kit cover?

A: Daniel Defense DDM4 and DD4 rifles. The fixtures in an armorer’s kit are platform-specific by nature: the URG-IR and the lower receiver vice block in this kit are the AR15/M4 versions. That is exactly why the combined DDM4 and DD5 kit exists as a separate part number with its own DD5 fixtures rather than one kit covering everything.

Q: Does the kit come with torque specifications?

A: Yes. A Parts List and Torque Values Chart is part of the kit, and Daniel Defense builds the torque chart into the kit as a feature. That chart is arguably the most valuable item in the case, because most armorer errors are torque errors rather than tool errors, and guessing at a barrel nut or castle nut figure is how rifles come back in pieces.

Q: How is the kit packed and stored?

A: The kit is packed in a Soft Pack Case by First Spear, described as a lightweight but durable soft case for easy storage and transport. A soft case is the right call for a kit that travels to a range, an armoury or a match rather than living on a bench, and it takes up markedly less room in a vehicle than a hard rolling case.

Q: Who actually needs an armorer’s tool kit rather than a basic AR tool set?

A: Anyone responsible for more than one rifle. Agency and unit armourers, instructors running loaner guns, competition teams and gunsmiths all need repeatable torque and the right roll pin punches, not improvised substitutes. A single owner who strips a rifle twice a year is better served by a smaller tool set. If you are not sure which side of that line you fall on, call 817-393-4000.

Q: Is the Daniel Defense armorer’s tool kit made in the USA?

A: Yes, the kit is made in the U.S.A., and Daniel Defense assembled it in partnership with several tool companies rather than sourcing generic tools. The list names Grace USA, Fix It Sticks, Classified Defense, Young Manufacturing and First Spear, which is why the punches, bits and fixtures in the case are recognisable brands rather than unbranded imports.
