Product Description

The Daniel Defense bolt assembly 5.56 NATO 300 BLACKOUT is a replacement bolt assembly compatible with both 5.56 NATO and 300 BLACKOUT chambered AR-15 upper receivers. This component is the rotating bolt portion of the bolt carrier group assembly.

The bolt assembly locks into the barrel extension and contains the extractor and ejector. It rotates to secure the cartridge during firing and unlocks as the carrier moves rearward during the cycling process.

Replacement bolt assemblies serve as spares for high-volume shooters or as direct replacements when extractors wear or bolts reach the end of their service life.

Key Facts

  • Brand: Daniel Defense
  • Part Number: DD-04-013-22183
  • Caliber Compatibility: 5.56 NATO and 300 BLACKOUT
  • Category: Bolt assembly for AR-15 platform upper receivers

Compatibility with 5.56 NATO and 300 BLACKOUT

This bolt assembly works with both 5.56 NATO and 300 BLACKOUT because those two cartridges share the same bolt face diameter and locking lug configuration. The 300 BLACKOUT was designed specifically to use the standard AR-15 bolt and magazines.

The bolt assembly installs into your existing Daniel Defense bolt carrier or any milspec carrier. If you are building or repairing a complete bolt carrier group, you will also need a carrier, cam pin, and firing pin.

When to Replace a Bolt Assembly

Bolt assemblies wear over time, especially in high round-count rifles. Common replacement triggers include extractor failure, chipped or peened locking lugs, or a cracked bolt face.

Many shooters keep a spare bolt assembly on hand as preventive maintenance. Rotating between two bolts during cleaning cycles extends the service life of both components and reduces downtime during range sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will this Daniel Defense bolt work in my 300 BLACKOUT upper?

A: Yes, this Daniel Defense bolt assembly is compatible with both 5.56 NATO and 300 BLACKOUT uppers because both cartridges use the same bolt face and locking lug design. The bolt assembly fits any milspec AR-15 bolt carrier.

Q: Can I use this bolt assembly with a different brand bolt carrier?

A: Yes, the Daniel Defense bolt assembly works with any milspec AR-15 bolt carrier. The bolt, cam pin, and firing pin are interchangeable across milspec carriers regardless of manufacturer.

Q: Is this just the bolt or does it include the carrier?

A: This is the bolt assembly only. It does not include the bolt carrier, cam pin, or firing pin. If you need a complete bolt carrier group, send us a message to discuss options.

Q: How do I know if my bolt assembly needs to be replaced?

A: Replace the bolt assembly if you see cracks in the bolt face, chipped or mushroomed locking lugs, or if the extractor fails to grip the rim consistently. Broken ejectors or extractors can often be replaced individually, but cracked bolt bodies require full bolt replacement.

Q: Do I need to check headspace when installing a new bolt?

A: Yes, headspace should be checked anytime you install a new bolt assembly into an upper receiver. Improper headspace creates unsafe pressure conditions. Western Sport offers gunsmithing services, and can verify headspace during installation.
