Product Description

Update, October 9, 2026: ATF no longer requires a Form 4, tax stamp, fingerprints or registration for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns or AOWs. They now transfer on a standard Form 4473 with a background check. Anything below that mentions a Form 4, a wait or a tax stamp was written before this change. What changed

The Daniel Defense DD4 RIII Rifle, part number 02-191-03270-067, is a semi-automatic 5.56 NATO rifle built on a 16″ cold hammer forged Government profile barrel and supplied by Daniel Defense without a magazine.

Daniel Defense gives the no-magazine build its own part number because magazine capacity is regulated differently from one state and locality to the next. A dealer sending a rifle into one of those areas orders this SKU and fits a compliant magazine on that end instead. If capacity rules where you live do not require it, order the standard DD4 RIII 16″ configuration instead — the rifle itself is identical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why does this DD4 RIII ship without a magazine?

A: Daniel Defense builds this part number specifically for buyers and dealers in places where magazine capacity is restricted.

Q: Is the rifle itself different from the standard DD4 RIII?

A: No. Same 16″ cold hammer forged Government profile barrel, same 1:7 twist, same mid-length gas system and RIS III 13.0 M-LOK rail, same ambidextrous lower. The only difference between the two part numbers is that no magazine is supplied with this one.

Q: What magazine should I buy for it?

A: The magazine well is unchanged, so magazines that fit the standard DD4 RIII fit this rifle.

Q: What is the muzzle thread pitch on the DD4 RIII?

A: 1/2 x 28 TPI, under the Daniel Defense Flash Suppressor. That is the common 5.56 thread pitch, so most 5.56 muzzle devices and direct-thread mounts will fit. If you are planning a specific suppressor or brake, send us a message before ordering.

Q: Does the 16″ barrel mean this is not an NFA item?

A: Correct. With a 16″ barrel and a rifle stock this is a standard Title I rifle, not a short-barrelled rifle, so no tax stamp is involved. It still has to go through a licensed FFL like any other rifle.
