Product Description
The Daniel Defense DDM4 Rail 15.0 is the rifle-length member of the DDM4 Rail family: a one-piece free-float AR-15 handguard with 15.20″ of rail, an uninterrupted Mil-Spec 1913 Picatinny top rail, integral limited-travel sling swivel points and the patented Bolt-Up System steel barrel nut. Sold here as part number 01-134-09186 in black, it is specified for low profile gas blocks on barrels 16″ and longer with gas systems at rifle length and shorter, and it is made in the USA.
This is the rail for a 16″ or 18″ rifle where the handguard should run nearly the full length of the barrel. Fifteen inches of continuous top rail is a different proposition from a carbine rail: a day optic on the receiver, a clip-on thermal well forward and a folding front sight at the muzzle end all sit on one indexed plane, over a free-floated barrel.
It is also the heaviest rail in the family at 14.8 oz, and that mass sits forward of the receiver, where it is felt more than the number suggests. Shooters wanting the same reach with less weight compare it against the M-LOK rails, where accessories bolt straight to the handguard instead of riding a Picatinny top. Inside diameter is 1.08″, sized for a standard barrel and a low profile gas block.

Fitment: why this one needs a 16″ barrel
Barrels 16″ and longer, gas systems rifle length and shorter, low profile gas block. Each clause matters. A 15.20″ rail on a shorter barrel leaves no room for a muzzle device, which is why the minimum barrel length is higher here than on the shorter rails. Rifle, mid-length and carbine gas systems all work if the block fits inside the 1.08″ inside diameter, so an A2 front sight tower comes off first.
Rifle length versus mid-length: getting the rail right
Owners of 16″ mid-length guns sometimes order this rail because it is longest, and owners of 18″ rifle length guns order a 12.0 because it looks like plenty. Both are avoidable. A rifle length gas system puts the block roughly twelve inches out, so a shorter rail will not cover it. Measure receiver face to gas block, compare against 15.20″, and leave room for the muzzle device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What barrel length does the DDM4 Rail 15.0 need?
A: Sixteen inches or longer, with a gas system at rifle length or shorter and a low profile gas block. The 15.20″ rail length drives that higher minimum: on a shorter barrel the handguard reaches the muzzle with nowhere left for a muzzle device. An 18″ or 20″ barrel is its natural home.
Q: Is the DDM4 Rail 15.0 made in the USA?
A: Yes, Daniel Defense builds this rail in the USA. It is CNC machined from Aircraft Grade 6061-T6 Aluminum, finished with Military Specification Type III Hard Coat Anodizing, and mounted with the patented Bolt-Up System steel barrel nut. Domestic manufacture plus mil-spec material and finish is much of why the line holds up.
Q: Will it work with a rifle length gas system?
A: Yes, that is what it is built for, and the gas system is specified as rifle extended. Rifle length and shorter all work provided the gas block is a low profile unit that fits the 1.08″ inside diameter. A standard height block or A2 front sight base is too tall to pass through during installation.
Q: How much heavier is the 15.0 than the 12.0?
A: About two and a half ounces: 14.8 oz against 12.4 oz. Both share the same 1.90″ width, 2.16″ height and 1.08″ inside diameter, so the difference is purely the extra 2.77″ of rail. Sitting forward of the receiver, the 15.0 feels noticeably more nose-heavy, which some precision shooters prefer.
Q: Can I put a clip-on night vision device in front of my scope?
A: One of the best reasons to choose this rail. The upper rail is a continuous, uninterrupted Mil-Spec 1913 Picatinny surface across the full 15.20″, indexed to the receiver rail, so a clip-on device on the handguard shares the plane of an optic on the receiver, and the rail free floats the barrel.
Q: Does it come with a sling mount?
A: The rail has integral sling swivel attachment points with limited travel built into the handguard, so a QD swivel plugs in at the front or rear of either side and the rotation limiter prevents tangles. Whether a loose swivel is packed with this SKU is a separate question, so call 817-393-4000 to confirm.
