The Daniel Defense DDM4 Rail 9.0 is a one-piece, free-floating AR-15 handguard with 9.235″ of rail length, a continuous Mil-Spec 1913 Picatinny top rail and the patented Bolt-Up System steel barrel nut, sold here as part number 01-134-15114 in black. Daniel Defense specifies it for low profile gas blocks on barrels 10″ and longer with gas systems at mid-length and shorter.
A factory plastic handguard on a delta ring touches the barrel and gives you nowhere solid to hang a light or a backup sight. This rail fixes both. It bolts to the upper receiver instead of resting on the barrel, so sling tension, bipod load and hand pressure no longer move your point of impact, and the top surface is one uninterrupted Picatinny run indexed to the receiver rail.
What separates the DDM4 Rail from the lighter M-LOK rails is that full-length Picatinny top, and it takes more aluminum: 9.5 oz bare, 11.2 oz installed, at a 1.90″ width that fills the hand. The 1.08″ inside diameter is sized around a barrel and a low profile gas block, not a suppressor.

Picking a length in the DDM4 Rail line
The family runs 9.0, 10.0, 12.0 and 15.0, and the rule is to take the longest rail your barrel and gas system will clear. This 9.0 suits a 10″ to 11.5″ barrel or a pistol-length build where the rail stops well short of the muzzle device. Step up to the 10.0 or 12.0 on a 14.5″ or 16″ barrel, and to the 15.0 only on 16″ and longer.

Q: Will this rail fit over a fixed front sight base?
A: No. With a 1.08″ inside diameter, the handguard has to pass over the gas block area, and a fixed front sight base or A2 tower is far too tall to clear. You need a low profile gas block. If your upper wears an F-marked front sight base, it has to come off before this rail goes on.
Q: What does the DDM4 Rail 9.0 weigh?
A: 9.5 oz for the rail and 11.2 oz installed with the mounting hardware. That is heavier than an M-LOK rail of the same length, and the reason is the full-length Mil-Spec 1913 Picatinny top and Picatinny structure. You trade a few ounces for a continuous mounting surface.
Q: Can I run a suppressor under this handguard?
A: Not under it. The 1.08″ inside diameter is sized around a barrel and a low profile gas block, not a suppressor body, though a can still threads on forward of the rail. If you want the handguard to shroud a suppressor, the MFR XL series uses a 1.61″ internal diameter built for that.
