The Daniel Defense DDM4 V1 Rifle is a semi-automatic 5.56 NATO rifle built on a 16" M4 profile cold hammer forged barrel with a carbine-length gas system, a Daniel Defense forged front sight post and a 12-inch Picatinny quad rail, offered here as Daniel Defense’s California Compliant SKU.
The V1 is the traditionalist’s Daniel Defense. Where most of the line has moved to M-LOK and a low profile gas block, the V1 keeps a fixed forged front sight post and a full quad rail, and it does so for a reason: the 12-inch rail extends forward of the front sight, so a weapon light or aiming device can sit ahead of the sight tower instead of fighting it for space. Quick-disconnect sling points are integrated front and rear on both sides of the rail, which makes it genuinely ambidextrous for sling work.
A 16" M4 profile barrel on carbine gas is the classic configuration and behaves the way a duty carbine should: quick to unlock, tolerant of ammunition variation, and light enough at the muzzle to handle well with a light and vertical grip fitted. Compared with a mid-length gas rifle the impulse is slightly sharper; compared with a lightweight-profile carbine it is more durable up front.
