Product Description
The Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 RattleCan Rifle is a semi-automatic 5.56 NATO rifle built on a 16" Government profile cold hammer forged barrel with a mid-length gas system, a free-floating MFR 15.0 M-LOK rail and a Daniel Defense flash suppressor, wearing Daniel Defense’s RattleCan finish and built as a California Compliant SKU.
The V7 is the rifle most people should buy if they are buying one Daniel Defense. A 16" Government profile barrel on mid-length gas is the configuration with the fewest compromises: full 5.56 velocity, a soft and flat recoil impulse from the lower port pressure, and enough steel under the gas block to stay consistent when the barrel heats. Nothing about it is specialised, which is exactly why it works for defensive use, competition, ranch work and general range shooting alike.
The MFR 15.0 rail is the other half of the appeal. It free floats the barrel, carries M-LOK attachment points along seven positions and puts an uninterrupted Picatinny rail across the top, so a red dot and magnifier, or a low-power variable and offset sight, all fit without compromise. At 15 inches it reaches nearly to the muzzle on a 16" barrel, which lets you push your support hand out for better control. The RattleCan finish is what separates this SKU visually from the black and single-colour V7 builds.

California Compliant configuration
Daniel Defense builds this RattleCan V7 as a California Compliant SKU. Compliance requirements change, and they are enforced differently from one county or city to the next, so nothing here should be read as a claim that this rifle is legal anywhere in particular. Verify the current requirements for your own jurisdiction before you order, and call 817-393-4000 so we can confirm the exact compliance features and the magazine configuration on this specific SKU.
V7 or V7 Pro?
The V7 is the 16" general-purpose rifle at 6.2 lbs. The V7 Pro moves to an 18" S2W heavy barrel on a rifle-length gas system with an upgraded trigger and a Muzzle Climb Mitigator, which makes it flatter shooting and better for matches but about a pound heavier. If the rifle is going to be carried more than it is shot from a bag, stay with the V7. Compare them in our DDM4 rifle comparison, browse the optics and pick up magazines while you are at it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the RattleCan finish on this DDM4 V7?
A: RattleCan is one of Daniel Defense’s finish options and it is what distinguishes this SKU from the black, Cobalt and FDE V7 rifles. It has no effect on the mechanical configuration: barrel, gas system, rail and muzzle device are the standard V7 specification.
Q: Why is a 16-inch mid-length considered the do-everything AR configuration?
A: Because it gives up the least. You keep full 5.56 velocity, the mid-length gas port lowers pressure and softens the impulse, and the Government profile barrel has enough mass to stay consistent as it heats. Nothing about it is specialised, which is why it suits defensive, competition and general use.
Q: How much rail space does the MFR 15.0 give me?
A: M-LOK attachment points along seven positions plus an uninterrupted Picatinny rail across the top, on a 15-inch free-floating handguard. On a 16-inch barrel that reaches nearly to the muzzle, so you can run a light, a laser, a hand stop and a full optic and magnifier arrangement without crowding.
Q: How heavy is this rifle?
A: 6.2 lbs, with an overall length of 32 1/4 to 35 7/8 inches including the muzzle device as the stock is adjusted. That is light for a 16-inch rifle with a 15-inch free-float rail, and it is one of the reasons the V7 is the most recommended configuration in the line.
Q: Is this RattleCan V7 legal in California?
A: We cannot say that it is. Daniel Defense builds this SKU as a California Compliant configuration, but the rules change and vary by locality. Confirm what currently applies in your own city and county before ordering, then call 817-393-4000 and we will confirm the compliance details on this SKU.
Q: Can this rifle be shipped to my home?
A: No. Firearms must be transferred through a licensed FFL. Western Sport in Roanoke, Texas is a licensed FFL and SOT and can complete the transfer in store, or ship to a dealer nearer you. Call 817-393-4000 and we will arrange it.
