Product Description
The Daniel Defense DDM4A1 SOCOM Rifle is a semi-automatic 5.56 NATO rifle built on a 14.5" M4 profile cold hammer forged barrel with a carbine-length gas system, the Daniel Defense M4A1 RIS II Picatinny quad rail in black, and an extended Daniel Defense flash suppressor pinned and welded to keep it in the rifle category.
This is the closest thing in the catalogue to the carbine Daniel Defense supplies to US Special Operations Command. The RIS II quad rail is the rail from the SOPMOD Block II programme: a two-piece, free-floating Picatinny system with Daniel Defense’s patented bolt-up attachment, tested before fielding by USSOCOM. It is heavier than an M-LOK rail, and that is the point — it is chosen where durability and accessory density outrank ounces.
A 14.5" M4 profile barrel on carbine gas is the military configuration, and the pinned and welded extended flash suppressor makes barrel and device one permanent unit over 16 inches, so this transfers as an ordinary rifle with no NFA paperwork. You get authentic duty-carbine balance and a muzzle signature tamed by the longer device, without the tax stamp and wait that a true 14.5" short-barrelled rifle would require. Santoprene rail ladders, heat resistant to 300 degrees F, cover the unused rail surfaces.

Why the RIS II rail still matters
The RIS II is a two-piece rail that bolts up to the upper receiver with Daniel Defense’s patented six-bolt system and free floats the barrel, so barrel harmonics are not disturbed by pressure on the handguard. It is the rail in service with SOCOM for the SOPMOD Block II programme, it accepts an M203, and it gives you continuous Picatinny surface on four sides for night vision, lights, lasers and sights in any arrangement you need. If you would rather have M-LOK and less weight, the M4A1 RIII carries a RIS III rail in the same barrel length.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does SOCOM mean on this DDM4A1?
A: It points to the rail. The M4A1 RIS II Picatinny quad rail is the handguard Daniel Defense supplies for the SOPMOD Block II programme, tested prior to fielding by US Special Operations Command. This is a semi-automatic commercial rifle built around that rail and a 14.5-inch M4 profile barrel.
Q: Why is a 14.5-inch barrel rifle not an NFA item?
A: The extended Daniel Defense flash suppressor is pinned and welded to the barrel, so barrel and device are measured as one permanent unit longer than 16 inches. That keeps the firearm in the ordinary rifle category, with no tax stamp and no NFA transfer, though it still requires an FFL transfer like any firearm.
Q: How heavy is the DDM4A1 SOCOM compared with an M-LOK build?
A: This rifle weighs 6.74 lbs. A quad rail carries more aluminium than an M-LOK handguard of similar length, so an M-LOK equivalent in the same barrel length will generally be lighter. You trade those ounces for continuous Picatinny surface and the RIS II’s proven durability.
Q: Can I mount an M203 or night vision on the RIS II rail?
A: Yes. The RIS II offers M203 grenade-launcher attachment and gives uninterrupted Picatinny surface on four sides, which is exactly what mounting night vision in line with a day optic requires. Santoprene rail ladders, heat resistant to 300 degrees F, cover the sections you are not using.
Q: Does the free-floating rail actually improve accuracy?
A: It removes a variable. Daniel Defense’s free float rails attach to the upper receiver with a proprietary bolt-up system rather than clamping the barrel, so sling tension, bipod load or a supported hand does not change barrel harmonics. Consistency, rather than raw group size, is the benefit.
Q: How do I buy it from Western Sport?
A: Call 817-393-4000. The rifle is serialized and must be transferred through a licensed FFL; we are an FFL and SOT in Roanoke, Texas and can complete it in store or ship to a dealer near you. Our gunsmith is on site if you want work done at the same time.
