Product Description
The Daniel Defense Delta Ring Assembly is a Mil-Spec delta ring assembly for AR-15 and M16 pattern upper receivers, supplied with a delta ring, spring, snap ring and AR15 barrel nut.
The delta ring is the spring-loaded collar that sits behind the handguard on a traditional AR-15 front end. Pull it rearward against its spring and the rear lip of a two-piece handguard comes free; release it and the spring drives the ring forward to lock the handguard between the ring and the front sight base or handguard cap. It is a small assembly that carries a surprising amount of responsibility, and the spring and snap ring are the parts that usually cause trouble when they wear.
Because the assembly includes the AR15 barrel nut, it is the natural part to buy when you are building or rebuilding a mil-spec front end rather than a free-float one. Fitting a drop-in handguard requires the barrel nut, delta ring, spring and snap ring to all work together, and buying them as one assembly avoids the classic problem of discovering mid-install that the snap ring you have will not seat.

When you need a delta ring assembly and when you do not
You need one if your front end uses two-piece drop-in handguards, or a quad rail that clamps between the delta ring and the front sight base. That is the arrangement on most fixed front sight base builds, and it is what a mil-spec barrel nut and delta ring exist to support.
Installation notes
Daniel Defense specifies a common AR15/M16 armorers wrench for installation, and states that the wrench is not included. You will also want a receiver vice block to hold the upper securely while the barrel nut is torqued, and snap ring pliers make seating the snap ring considerably less frustrating than doing it with a screwdriver.
Pair this with a barrel from our Daniel Defense barrels, browse our rails and handguards for drop-in handguards and rails, or check our parts department for the small components that go with a front-end rebuild.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What comes in the Daniel Defense Delta Ring Assembly?
A: Daniel Defense lists the assembly as containing a delta ring, a spring, a snap ring and an AR15 barrel nut. That is the full set of front-end hardware needed to retain two-piece drop-in handguards on a mil-spec AR-15 or M16 pattern upper receiver.
Q: What tool do I need to install it?
A: Daniel Defense specifies a common AR15/M16 armorers wrench, and notes that the wrench is not included. A receiver vice block to hold the upper while the barrel nut is torqued is strongly recommended, and snap ring pliers make seating the snap ring far easier than improvising with a screwdriver.
Q: Do I need this if I am running a free-float handguard?
A: No. Free-float rails mount to their own barrel nut and do not use the delta ring at all, so the assembly gets removed during that kind of build. Daniel Defense’s Bolt-Up System rails and Modular Float Rail each use their own dedicated barrel nut rather than the AR15 barrel nut supplied in this assembly.
Q: Will this fix rattling handguards on an old carbine?
A: Usually, yes. Loose two-piece handguards are most often caused by a tired delta ring spring that has lost tension, and since this assembly includes a new delta ring, spring and snap ring, replacing it restores the clamping force. If the handguards themselves are worn or cracked, they will need replacing too.
Q: Does this fit any AR-15 upper receiver?
A: It is a Mil-Spec delta ring assembly for AR-15 and M16 pattern upper receivers, which covers standard forged and most billet uppers. Non-standard or proprietary front ends may differ. If you are unsure whether your upper is standard pattern, call 817-393-4000 and describe it to us before ordering.
Q: Is an FFL needed for this part?
A: No. A delta ring assembly and barrel nut are components, not firearms, so there is no transfer, Form 4473 or background check involved and the parts ship directly to you. Only serialized receivers require an FFL. Component rules vary by state and city, so check your own jurisdiction if you are outside Texas.
