Product Description

The Daniel Defense Flash Suppressor, Extended, 1/2×28 (part 06-048-08123) is the 2.25 in. extended version of Daniel Defense’s flash suppressor, threaded 1/2 x 28 TPI for 5.56mm NATO barrels, machined from aerospace 17-4 stainless steel and salt bath nitrided. It is the length Daniel Defense uses when a flash suppressor is permanently attached to a 14.5 in. barrel to reach the 16 in. rifle minimum.

Builders with a 14.5 in. barrel have two paths: register the firearm as a short-barrelled rifle, or permanently attach a device long enough to take the barrel assembly to 16 in. Daniel Defense does the second on its own 14.5 in. uppers. A standard 1.875 in. device is not a substitute.

Pin-and-weld, and choosing between the two lengths

Two things decide whether a pin-and-weld works: the device must be long enough once seated on the shoulder, and the installation has to be genuinely permanent, which means a gunsmith rather than a wrench. We have one on site – call before you order, because it is not reversible. Note too that the Advanced Armament Omni and Gemtech Halo compatibility Daniel Defense lists applies to the standard length in 1/2 x 28, not to this version. See our muzzle devices and barrels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long is the extended Daniel Defense Flash Suppressor?

A: 2.25 in. Daniel Defense lists the Flash Suppressor in two lengths, standard at 1.875 in. and extended at 2.25 in., and this part number is the extended version. The difference is body length ahead of the shoulder; caliber rating and thread are unchanged between the two.

Q: Is this the device Daniel Defense pins and welds to 14.5 in. barrels?

A: Yes. Daniel Defense uses an extended flash suppressor, permanently attached, to take its 14.5 in. barrels to the 16 in. rifle minimum. Whether it does that on your barrel depends on how the device seats, so call 817-393-4000 and let our gunsmith confirm.

Q: Does the extended version work with the AAC Omni or Gemtech Halo?

A: Daniel Defense lists that compatibility for the Standard Length Flash Suppressor with 1/2 x 28 TPI, not for the extended version. If you are buying a muzzle device to mount one of those suppressors, order the standard-length 1/2 x 28 part instead.

Q: What thread and caliber is this device?

A: It is cut 1/2 x 28 TPI and Daniel Defense rates the Flash Suppressor for 5.56mm NATO. Daniel Defense also builds the device in 5/8 x 24 TPI, which will not thread onto a 1/2 x 28 barrel. Check your barrel’s thread before ordering; we can help identify it over the phone.

Q: Will the extra length change how the rifle handles?

A: Slightly. 375 in. of device adds a little length and weight at the muzzle, which most shooters notice as marginally slower transitions and a steadier hold. The functional gain is that the gas exit plane sits farther from the support hand and from your sight picture.

Q: What is the device made of?

A: Aerospace 17-4 stainless steel, salt bath nitrided. Daniel Defense chose that combination so there is minimal chance of corrosion at the muzzle, where a device spends its life in hot propellant gas. It also stands up to repeated heat cycling better than plain carbon steel devices.
