Product Description

The Daniel Defense Micro Mount with Rock & Lock is a micro red dot mount that secures an Aimpoint Micro-pattern optic to a flat-top AR upper receiver using Daniel Defense’s patented Rock & Lock attachment system, and it gives you either absolute or lower 1/3 co-witness with back-up iron sights.

Two things go wrong with cheap micro mounts. The first is return to zero: a mount clamping on friction alone shifts when it is refitted, or when a plate carrier catches it hard. Rock & Lock indexes and locks to the receiver instead. The second is the optic-to-mount joint, and a recoil lug interface between mount and optic keeps the sight from creeping forward and walking your zero out from under you.

The height question is the one buyers agonize over. Absolute co-witness sets the dot in line with the iron sights. Lower 1/3 lifts it so the irons fall into the bottom third of the glass, and that height comes from a magnesium alloy spacer, so you are not paying for it in weight up high.

Choosing absolute or lower 1/3

Choose absolute if your irons are the primary backup and you shoot with a low, aggressive cheek weld. Choose lower 1/3 if you run a plate carrier and helmet, or crane to get behind an absolute-height dot. The body is the same either way. Compare our scope rings and mounts and scope mounts, or start with red dot and holographic sights if the optic is undecided.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which optics fit the Micro Mount?

A: It is cut for the Aimpoint Micro R-1, H-1, H-2, T-1 and T-2, the Vortex Sparc I and II, the Primary Arms Micro Dot and Advanced Micro Dot, the Holosun HS403, or any other optic using the same type of mounting interface. If your sight is not listed, call 817-393-4000.

Q: Do I get absolute or lower 1/3 co-witness?

A: Either. The mount offers absolute or lower 1/3 co-witness with back-up iron sights, the taller height coming from a spacer made of lightweight magnesium alloy. Absolute puts the dot in line with your iron sight picture; lower 1/3 parks the irons in the bottom third of the window.

Q: What is Rock & Lock and why does it matter on an optic mount?

A: Rock & Lock is Daniel Defense’s patented attachment system. Rather than gripping the rail on friction alone, the mount indexes and locks to the flat-top upper receiver, which is what lets a red dot return to zero after coming off the gun and back on.

Q: What does it weigh?

A: 1.5 to 1.8 oz depending on configuration, since the lower 1/3 spacer adds height and a little mass – that is why a range is published rather than one figure. It is machined from aircraft grade 6061-T6 aluminum with the spacer in magnesium alloy to keep weight off the receiver.

Q: Will it fit any flat-top AR upper?

A: It is designed to mount a micro red dot to a flat-top upper receiver, which covers standard AR-15 and M4-pattern flat-tops. Because Rock & Lock indexes on the receiver rail, what you need to confirm is that your upper has an intact flat-top rail rather than a proprietary top.

Q: Can the mount be run reversed for a left-handed shooter?

A: Yes. It is snag-free and reversible, so it can be oriented to put the hardware and any overhang on whichever side suits you and your gear. The snag-free profile is there so slings and equipment do not catch on the mount body during a transition.
