Why gas system length is the deciding spec here

The Omega Rail comes in a carbine version and this mid-length version, and they are not interchangeable by preference. The 9.0 at 8.99″ is built around a mid-length gas system, the 7.0 at 7.02″ around a carbine gas system. Both use the same 1.85″ width, 2.14″ height and 1.325″ inside diameter, so length and gas system are the only variables. The Omega and the MFR answer the same question differently. The MFR mounts through the patented Bolt-Up System with a steel barrel nut, gives a continuous 1913 top rail, and asks for tools and torque.
