Product Description

The Daniel Defense RIS II Screw Pack is the 1.2 oz set of replacement rail screws required to install a MK18 RIS II or M4A1 RIS II handguard – four long socket head rail screws, two short socket head rail screws, and six flat head rail screws with washers.

These screws come with the purchase of a complete rail system, so this pack is only necessary if you damaged or misplaced your original parts. That covers the usual cases: a RIS II bought used with no fasteners, a screw head stripped by a worn bit, or a rail that left something on the bench during a barrel change.

Order the correct pack rather than improvise. Daniel Defense rail fasteners are military specification, with Grade 8 fasteners specified on several of its rails, and the RIS II is a two-piece rail whose alignment depends on those screws holding their torque.

Screw pack or hardware pack?

Both exist for the RIS II and they are not the same order. This screw pack is fasteners only; the RIS II Hardware Pack carries the same screws plus the Bolt-Up System barrel nut and the RIS II bolt-up plate. The RIS II itself is the two-piece rail Daniel Defense is sole source provider of to United States Special Operations Command, designed at SOCOM’s request for the SOPMOD II program. Also worth a look: our rail and handguard accessories, our rails and handguards, and the wider upper receiver parts section.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which handguard do these screws belong to?

A: They are the replacement rail screws required to install a MK18 RIS II or M4A1 RIS II handguard. That is the fitment: the two RIS II handguards. A DDM4 Rail, SLiM Rail or Lite Rail III uses different fasteners and a different pack, which we list separately.

Q: What is in the pack?

A: Four long socket head rail screws, two short socket head rail screws, and six flat head rail screws with washers, at a total weight of 1.2 oz. That is the screw complement for a RIS II installation rather than a single fastener, so you keep spares afterwards.

Q: Do I need this if I am buying a complete rail system?

A: No. These screws come with the purchase of a complete rail system, so the pack is only necessary if you damaged or misplaced your original parts. That is why it exists as a part number – a RIS II arriving second-hand without its fasteners is common.

Q: What is the difference between the screw pack and the RIS II hardware pack?

A: The screw pack is the fasteners on their own. The RIS II Hardware Pack adds the Bolt-Up System barrel nut and the RIS II bolt-up plate to the same screw complement. If your barrel nut and plate are present and sound and only screws are missing, the screw pack is the correct, smaller order.

Q: Will these screws work on a RIS III?

A: Do not assume so. The RIS III is backward compatible with the RIS II Bolt-Up System and uses the same barrel nut and bolt-up plate, and its upper rail is fully compatible with the RIS II lower rail – but this pack is specified for MK18 and M4A1 RIS II handguards. Call 817-393-4000 with your rail and we will confirm.

Q: Why not substitute a hardware-store screw of the same size?

A: Daniel Defense rail fasteners are military specification, with Grade 8 fasteners specified on several of its rails. A soft substitute deforms or shears under the torque a rail joint needs, and a sheared screw inside a handguard is a drilling job. Replacing the screw properly is much cheaper.
