Product Description

The Aero Precision M5 Carbine Complete Lower Receiver with MOE SL Grip and SL Carbine Stock is a serialized, assembly-ready foundation for .308 AR-platform builds. This complete lower pairs Aero Precision’s forged AR-10 pattern lower with Magpul MOE SL furniture in a carbine-length configuration.

Because this is a complete lower receiver, the fire control group, buffer system, pistol grip, and stock are already installed. You add an upper receiver assembly, and the rifle is complete.

The M5 lower uses the DPMS pattern, the most common .308 AR footprint. It mates with most AR-10 uppers on the market that follow DPMS/.308 Win specifications.

What “Complete Lower” Means for Your Build

A complete lower receiver is fully assembled from the factory. The trigger, hammer, safety selector, magazine release, bolt catch, buffer tube, buffer, spring, grip, and stock are installed and function-checked before it ships.

You do not need a lower parts kit, stock kit, or assembly tools. Attach your upper receiver group—barrel, bolt carrier group, charging handle, and handguard already mounted—and you have a functioning rifle. This is the fastest path from parts to range time.

Because the lower receiver is the serialized component, it transfers through an FFL like any other firearm. The upper assembly does not require transfer and can ship directly to your door in most states.

M5 Lower Compatibility and Fit

The M5 lower is built to DPMS Gen 1 specifications, the de facto standard for .308 AR-pattern rifles. It accepts DPMS-spec uppers, including those chambered in .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, and other short-action cartridges that fit the AR-10 magazine well.

The carbine stock uses a mil-spec carbine buffer tube. The MOE SL stock is adjustable for length of pull across six positions, and the MOE SL grip offers a more vertical angle than legacy A2-style grips.

Magwell dimensions follow DPMS/.308 standards. Standard SR-25 pattern magazines—including Magpul PMAG 308 Gen M3 and many others—fit and function correctly. Send us a message to confirm compatibility with a specific magazine or upper if you are unsure.

Carbine Buffer System and What It Means

The carbine-length buffer system uses a shorter buffer tube than a rifle-length system. This allows the stock to collapse or extend across a tighter range, making the overall rifle more compact when collapsed.

Carbine buffers are shorter and typically lighter than rifle buffers. Most .308 AR carbine systems use an H or H2 buffer to slow the bolt carrier’s rearward travel and reduce felt recoil. The specific buffer weight in this assembly should be confirmed before you tune the rifle for a particular load or suppressor setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the M5 lower work with standard AR-15 uppers?

A: No, the M5 lower is sized for .308 Winchester and other short-action cartridges and will not mate with AR-15 uppers. The M5 uses a larger magazine well, wider receiver profile, and different pivot and takedown pin spacing than the AR-15 platform.

Q: What is the difference between the M5 and Aero’s M5E1 lower?

A: The M5 is a traditional two-piece design with a separate lower receiver and upper receiver held by takedown pins. The M5E1 uses an enhanced upper receiver with a threaded connection and integrated trigger guard. Both are DPMS-compatible, but the M5 pairs with any DPMS-spec upper while the M5E1 requires the matching enhanced upper.

Q: Can I replace the stock or grip on this lower receiver?

A: Yes, the MOE SL stock and grip are standard aftermarket components and can be swapped. The buffer tube is mil-spec carbine diameter, so any mil-spec carbine stock will fit. The grip uses a standard AR grip screw.

Q: How does the FFL transfer process work in Texas?

A: Because the lower receiver is the serialized firearm, it must transfer through a licensed dealer. Texas residents may take possession the same day if the background check clears.

Q: What calibers can I build on the M5 lower?

A: The M5 lower accepts any DPMS-pattern upper chambered in cartridges that fit the SR-25 / .308 Win magazine well. Common chamberings are .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, .243 Winchester, and .260 Remington. Magnum-length cartridges like .300 Win Mag do not fit.

Q: Does Aero Precision warranty this lower receiver?
