The TX22 FRT is a drop-in forced reset trigger for the Taurus TX22 .22 LR pistol. It replaces the factory disconnector, and as the slide cycles it pushes your trigger forward to the reset point, so you are ready for the next shot almost as fast as you can press. How a forced reset trigger works in the TX22

In a stock TX22, you have to let the trigger travel forward on its own until it resets before you can fire again. The FRT takes over that job. When a round fires, the slide moves rearward and then forward, and the FRT uses that movement to drive the trigger forward to its reset point. Keep steady pressure on the trigger and it is ready again immediately.

The pistol still fires one round for each pull of the trigger. What changes is how quickly the next pull is available, which is why TX22 owners call it one of the most fun upgrades you can put on a rimfire pistol. It is also the cheapest way to turn a box of .22 into a very short afternoon.

How to install a TX22 FRT

Installation takes a 1/16″ punch, a light hammer and some patience. The short version:

1. Unload the pistol, remove the magazine and confirm the chamber is empty.
2. Field strip the pistol and remove the slide.
3. Drive out the three frame roll pins and work the fire control housing up out of the frame.
4. Remove the manual safety levers if your model has them (they are lightly glued at the factory).
5. Push the disconnector pin halfway out, lift out the factory disconnector and set the FRT in its place.
6. Align the FRT with the punch and tap the pin back in from the left side.
7. Reinstall the housing with the trigger bar in front of the FRT, refit the safety levers and roll pins, and reassemble.
8. Do an unloaded function check before you load it.

Getting your TX22 FRT to run reliably

• Use high-velocity ammo. The TX22 is a blowback .22 LR and needs enough energy to cycle the slide fully. Weak bulk or subsonic loads are the number one cause of failures to reset.
• Keep it lightly oiled. A thin film on the slide rails and trigger contact surfaces keeps the reset smooth.
• Do not fight the trigger. Hold steady rearward pressure and let the trigger move forward as it resets.
• Test before you fill the magazine. Start with two rounds, then five, then a full magazine.
• Expect a short break-in. Most pistols smooth out over the first few hundred rounds.

Is a TX22 FRT legal?

At the federal level, forced reset triggers are not currently treated as machineguns. In May 2025 the Department of Justice settled its litigation with Rare Breed Triggers, and FRTs have been sold openly since. State and local law is a separate question, and several states restrict these devices. We do not ship this trigger to CA, CO, CT, DE, DC, FL, HI, IL, IA, MD, MA, MN, NV, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VA or WA, or to U.S. territories or outside the United States. You are responsible for confirming it is lawful where you live. This is not legal advice.

Do I need an FFL to buy a TX22 forced reset trigger?

No. The TX22 FRT is a replacement part, not a firearm, so it ships straight to your door with no FFL transfer, as long as your address is in a state we ship to.

Is installing a TX22 FRT permanent?

No. The FRT takes the place of the factory disconnector inside the fire control housing. Nothing is cut, drilled or filed, so you can put the original disconnector back in at any time. Keep it in a bag with your spare parts.

How hard is the TX22 FRT to install?

Most owners finish in 15 to 30 minutes with a 1/16 inch pin punch and a small hammer. The fiddly parts are lifting the fire control housing out of the frame and not bending the thin disconnector pin. Why is my TX22 FRT jamming or not resetting?

The usual cause is ammunition. The TX22 is a blowback .22 LR with very little slide energy to spare, so weak or bulk subsonic loads can short-stroke the slide and fail to reset the trigger. High-velocity ammo generally runs best. After that, check lubrication, make sure the trigger bar sits in front of the FRT, and let the trigger travel forward instead of fighting it.

Does the TX22 FRT work with a suppressor?

It can, but a suppressor changes back-pressure and slide timing, and some TX22s that run perfectly unsuppressed need different ammunition once a can is mounted. Test with a few rounds at a time when you add a suppressor.

Does the pistol still fire one round per trigger pull?

Yes. A forced reset trigger uses the moving slide to push the trigger forward to its reset point. You still have to pull the trigger again for every shot. It makes follow-up shots faster; it does not make the pistol fire automatically.
