There are brand sobs out there who won’t use anything that’s not from a “well respected” company. I get that- to a point. I just want stuff that works with having to take out a loan. For example, I have no doubt Forward Controls EMR-A ambi mag release is nice. $66.50 nice? It’s a mag release and there’s not a lot to them, frankly. To that end, I’ll tell you that switching to the UTG from my Sig ambi release was a big improvement! Night and day, in fact. The ergonomics make dropping mags a smooth and effortless operation and the right side comes standard with two options at no extra cost, thank you very much, UTG! You get the standard mil-spec button you’re used to, or a thoughtfully included extension tab that screws onto the mil-spec button. Note: be sure you get the release adjusted the way you want before attaching the extension as it will obviously prevent a deep enough depression to allow rotation of the left side after installation.
The ONLY possible knock that’s barely worth mentioning, is the fact that it is SLIGHTLY taller. As a result, if you run an the standard mil-spec bolt catch with the small button on the bottom, it may be interfere initially. After a little practice, however, this will become a non-issue and the improved functionality gained will grossly outweigh the learning curve.
For the price and features offered you’ll be hard pressed to do better. Besides, if you buy it and don’t like it, you’re not out a bunch or money, though, my guess is that this won’t be seeing the bottom of your spare parts tote any time soon.

I wish I’d had this available before I purchased the Sig Sauer Ambi Mag Catch because this works more efficiently, with less effort, than the Sig version. The UTG is actually more “extended,” making the ergonomics brilliantly smooth with flawless operation. The right side has the option of the either standard mil-spec button you’re used to, or an extension tab that screws onto the button, all without having to pay extra! While Sig is good, this is much better, IMHO.
The only possible knock on this would be that, because of the thickness, I find it does SLIGHTLY interfere with the small, mil-spec bolt catch button. This becomes a non-issue after a little practice because the functionality grossly outweighs this issue and is easily solved with a Strike Industries Bolt Catch.
Whether you’re a right or left handed shooter, this really is one of the best functioning and most affordable mag releases out there- you’ll NOT be disappointed
