Zeiss has officially launched its new V3 line of Second Focal Plane (SFP) hunting scopes, offering twelve distinct models tailored for various hunting applications. Alongside this release, we examine how these optics perform in the field when paired with a highly customized Springfield Armory Waypoint 2020 Redline rifle.
The Zeiss V3 scopes lineup
The V3 line represents a significant shift in the Zeiss business model, focusing on delivering high-end glass quality at a more accessible price point. With MSRPs ranging from $299 to $949, the company has maintained consistent construction standards across all models, ensuring that even the most affordable options benefit from the same rigorous engineering as the premium versions. The lineup covers a wide spectrum of needs, from rimfire applications to long-range hunting, with various reticle and turret configurations available.
Zeiss V3 scopes: field performance and testing
During extensive testing in Oklahoma and Arizona, the V3 scopes proved their mettle in real-world hunting conditions. Shooters achieved first-round hits on vital-sized targets at distances between 400 and 850 yards, even in high-wind environments. The glass clarity, particularly during the final hour of legal shooting light, highlights the effectiveness of Zeiss’s proprietary coatings. Optimizing the Springfield Waypoint 2020
To push the limits of the V3 4.5-14×50, it was mounted on a Springfield Waypoint 2020 Redline chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. By upgrading the factory stock to a JTAC Screech Owl chassis and incorporating a Precision Armament TiTrex 360 Ti suppressor, the build achieved a perfect balance of lightweight portability and precision. This setup demonstrates that modern hunting rifles, when paired with the right glass, can handle diverse terrain and difficult shots with ease. The combination of the Waypoint’s reliable action and the V3’s optical performance makes for a formidable hunting rig capable of filling tags in challenging environments.
