Superlative Arms builds the adjustable gas blocks and piston kits that let you tune an AR’s gas system instead of living with whatever the barrel was ported for. Western Sport stocks the direct-impingement bleed-off blocks in every journal size plus the pistol, carbine and mid-length piston conversions. Order online and they ship straight to your door.
- What it is: An AR-15 / AR-10 / LR-308 gas block with a patented “Bleed Off” port that vents excess propellant gas forward out of the block rather than choking it down inside the adjustment screw.
- Why that matters: Because the surplus gas leaves the block instead of being throttled in a passage, carbon and fouling are pushed out the front, and the rifle runs cooler and softer than it does on a restrictor-style adjustable block.
- Journal sizes: .625″, .750″, .875″ and .936″ — measure the barrel at the gas port shoulder, not at the muzzle.
- Mounting: solid set-screw or clamp-on, in 416 stainless steel with a Melonite or stainless matte finish.
- Tuning range: roughly 40 clicks of adjustment. The first turns restrict flow conventionally; past that the block moves into bleed-off mode and dumps the surplus.
- Piston kits: pistol, carbine and mid-length conversions take a direct-impingement AR over to piston operation with the same adjustability.
- Ordering: gas blocks, piston kits and gas tubes are parts, not firearms — order online and they ship to your door, no FFL transfer needed.
Picking the right Superlative Arms gas block
Three decisions get you to a part number. First, journal diameter: .750″ covers most standard AR-15 barrels, .875″ and .936″ fit heavier profiles and many AR-10 / LR-308 barrels, and .625″ is for the lightest pencil profiles. Second, mounting: a clamp-on block grips the barrel all the way around and is the easier choice if you would rather not dimple a barrel, while a solid set-screw block sits lower under a slim handguard. Third, finish: Melonite is the black nitride option and stainless matte leaves the 416 steel bare.
Running one suppressed
A can raises back pressure, which is exactly the problem the bleed-off design was built around. Tune the block closed, then open it until brass lands consistently around 3 to 4 o’clock with the suppressor mounted, and you keep a rifle that still cycles reliably unsuppressed without beating the bolt carrier. If you are shopping for the can as well, our suppressors are NFA items — we hold the SOT and file your Form 4, with no filing fee on items bought from us.
How ordering works
Add the part to your cart and check out. Gas blocks, gas tubes and piston kits ship to your address like any other accessory. Credova financing is available at checkout, and we price match authorized dealers on identical items that are in stock and ready to ship. Questions on fitment for a specific barrel? Send us a message with the barrel maker and profile and we will tell you which journal size you need.
