Purchasing a serialized receiver

In ATF regulations, the serialized lower receiver of an AR-15 is the regulated “firearm.” This means the lower requires the same paperwork as a complete rifle purchase — a 4473 form and NICS background check. All other components (barrel, trigger, stock, handguard) can be purchased without any background check.

When buying a stripped lower, bring a valid government-issued ID with your current address. The purchase process is identical to buying a complete firearm. Transfer fees may apply on items shipped from other dealers. We can walk you through the process if you are buying your first lower receiver.
