Product Description

Update, October 9, 2026: ATF no longer requires a Form 4, tax stamp, fingerprints or registration for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns or AOWs. They now transfer on a standard Form 4473 with a background check. Anything below that mentions a Form 4, a wait or a tax stamp was written before this change. What changed

The Aero Precision M5 Carbine complete lower receiver is a serialized AR-10 pattern lower that ships with a Magpul MOE grip installed and no stock. This complete lower gives you a head start on an AR-10 build while letting you choose your own buttstock and upper receiver.

Because the M5 uses the AR-10 platform, it pairs with .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor uppers. The carbine-length receiver extension is compatible with carbine buffer systems.

This lower is a serialized firearm and requires an FFL transfer to take possession.

  • SKU: APAR308012
  • Configuration: Complete lower with grip, no stock included

What the M5 Complete Lower Includes

A complete lower receiver means the fire control group, safety selector, magazine release, bolt catch, trigger guard, and buffer system are already installed. The Magpul MOE grip is mounted and ready. You supply the stock to fit the carbine receiver extension.

This format suits builders who want a functional lower without spending hours on the tedious small parts, but who have a specific stock or brace in mind. It also works for anyone replacing a damaged lower on an existing rifle.

Aero Precision M5 vs. AR-15 Lower Receivers

The M5 lower is sized for the AR-10 pattern, which handles larger cartridges than the AR-15. The magazine well, pins, and buffer tube threads are dimensioned differently. An M5 lower will not accept an AR-15 upper or magazines.

If you are building in .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, or another .308-based cartridge, you need an AR-10 pattern lower like the M5. For 5.56 NATO or .223 Remington, use an AR-15 lower instead. You can browse both in our complete lowers and lower receivers categories.

What to Confirm Before You Order

Send us a message to confirm compatibility with your chosen upper receiver and stock. Not all AR-10 pattern parts interchange across brands, and Aero Precision uses its own dimensional standard for the M5 series.

Because this lower ships with no stock, verify that the carbine receiver extension matches the stock you plan to install. Most mil-spec carbine stocks will fit, but adjustable braces and some specialty stocks have specific tube requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the Aero Precision M5 complete lower compatible with AR-15 uppers?

A: No, the M5 lower is an AR-10 pattern receiver and will not accept AR-15 uppers, magazines, or buffer systems. It is designed for .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor cartridges, which require the larger AR-10 frame.

Q: Does this M5 lower come with a stock installed?

A: No, this complete lower includes a Magpul MOE grip but no stock. The carbine receiver extension is installed, so you can add any mil-spec carbine stock or compatible brace. Send us a message if you need help selecting a stock that fits.

Q: What is the difference between a complete lower and a stripped lower receiver?

A: A complete lower has the fire control group, buffer system, safety selector, and grip already installed. A stripped lower is just the receiver itself with no internal parts. Complete lowers save time and eliminate the need for specialized tools and small-parts assembly.

Q: How do I transfer this lower receiver in Texas?

A: Because the lower receiver is a serialized firearm, you must complete an ATF Form 4473 and pass a NICS background check at the time of transfer. Bring a valid Texas ID or state-issued identification and allow time for the background check to clear.

Q: Can I use this M5 lower to build a pistol or an SBR?

A: The lower receiver itself can be configured as a rifle, pistol, or short-barreled rifle depending on the stock or brace you install and the upper receiver length. If you install a barrel shorter than 16 inches and a stock, you are creating an SBR that requires ATF registration on a Form 1 before assembly. Send us a message to discuss your build plan and any NFA requirements.

Q: Does the Magpul MOE grip on this lower fit all hand sizes?

A: The Magpul MOE grip has a medium-width profile and a vertical angle that suits most shooters. If you prefer a steeper or slimmer grip, you can swap it for any AR-pattern grip that uses a standard grip screw. The MOE is a proven design that balances comfort and control for general use.
