Two-point vs single-point slings

Two-point slings attach at two points on the rifle — typically the stock and a point on the handguard. They are the standard for most applications: better rifle control when carried, better support for shooting off-hand, and more options for muzzle retention in a confrontation.

Single-point slings attach only at the rear of the receiver. They allow free movement of the rifle in any direction and are preferred in vehicle or confined-space environments where the two-point tether creates problems. The tradeoff is the rifle swings freely when not in use, which can be uncomfortable and can slap the shooter during movement.

For most patrol, range, and home defense applications, a two-point sling is the correct choice. Single-point is the specialist’s tool. Adjust the sling so the rifle hangs at approximately chest height when you let it go — low enough to reach easily, high enough not to dangle below your waist.

What to Look For

When choosing rifle slings for sale, consider attachment compatibility with your firearm.
