Product Description

Barrett M107A1 — The US Army’s Semi-Automatic .50 Caliber

The M107A1 is the current-generation semi-automatic .50 BMG rifle in service with the United States Army as the M107 Anti-Materiel/Sniper Rifle System. It represents the evolutionary refinement of the M82A1 design — lighter, suppressor-capable, with a hydraulic buffer system and an improved top rail. If the M82A1 is the rifle that proved the concept, the M107A1 is the version that refined every known limitation of the platform based on decades of military feedback.

The most significant improvements over the M82A1 are: an aluminum upper receiver (reducing weight), a hydraulic buffer system (smoother operation and longer service life), a full-length continuous top rail (better optic and accessory mounting), and factory compatibility with the Barrett QDL suppressor.

The Hydraulic Buffer System

The M107A1’s hydraulic buffer unit provides a more controlled deceleration of the bolt carrier group during the rearward stroke, which results in smoother felt recoil, improved reliability across varied ammunition types, and longer service life on high-round-count rifles. For a platform that costs $14,000+, the hydraulic buffer is the detail that separates a tool built for sustained use from one built for occasional range sessions.

Suppressor Compatibility

The M107A1 ships with a suppressor-capable muzzle device and is compatible with the Barrett QDL (Quick Detach Large caliber) suppressor. The QDL attaches without tools and is designed for minimal point-of-impact shift between suppressed and unsuppressed configurations. The NFA paperwork and $0 federal tax stamp (under the OBBBA) apply as with any NFA item — we handle Form 4 transfers at our Roanoke shop.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the M107 and M107A1?

The M107A1 is an upgraded version of the M107, which was itself derived from the M82A1. The A1 designation reflects improvements including a lighter receiver, the hydraulic buffer system, and factory suppressor compatibility. The M107A1 is the current-issue version.

What suppressor is compatible with the M107A1?

The Barrett QDL (Quick Detach Large caliber) suppressor. It attaches via a quick-detach interface without tools. The Barrett QDL is an NFA item — file ATF Form 4, pay $0 federal tax (OBBBA), and wait for ATF approval. We handle NFA transfers in-house.

Do the M107A1 and M82A1 share magazines?

No. The M107A1 and M82A1 use different magazines that are not interchangeable, despite both being .50 BMG. Always confirm magazine compatibility before purchasing spare magazines.

What is the effective range of the M107A1?

The M107A1 is rated for anti-materiel use to 1,800 meters under operational conditions. For civilian precision shooting, 1,000–1,500 yards is a practical working range for a trained shooter with quality match ammunition and appropriate optics.

Does the M107A1 come with a scope?

No. The rifle ships with bipod, iron sights, and hard case. A separate optic in the 5-25× or 5-35× range is required. We can assist with optic selection and mounting at our Roanoke shop.
