Product Description

Update, October 9, 2026: ATF no longer requires a Form 4, tax stamp, fingerprints or registration for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns or AOWs. They now transfer on a standard Form 4473 with a background check. Anything below that mentions a Form 4, a wait or a tax stamp was written before this change. What changed

The Barrett QDL is the only production suppressor on the market rated for 50 BMG. Barrett — the manufacturer that defined the civilian .50 BMG rifle market with the M82A1 in 1982 — built the QDL specifically for their M82A1, M107A1, and M99 50 BMG rifles. “QDL” stands for Quick Detach Light — Barrett’s QD system allows fast attachment and removal from the M82A1’s muzzle brake, and the “Light” designation indicates Barrett’s emphasis on minimizing added weight on a rifle that is already 30+ pounds. The QDL reduces the sonic signature of a 50 BMG round by a meaningful amount — 50 BMG is too loud and too powerful for complete suppression, but the QDL takes the edge off the concussive muzzle blast that makes unsuppressed 50 BMG firing genuinely uncomfortable for nearby observers and shooter alike.

At $3,119, the Barrett QDL is one of the most expensive suppressors in the civilian market — and with good reason. Containing 50 BMG chamber pressure requires engineering margins that 5.56 and 7.62 suppressors never need to meet. The QDL’s steel and titanium construction, Barrett’s proprietary blast deflection baffle geometry, and its compatibility with the M107A1’s auto-compensation muzzle brake make it a specialized, purpose-built tool for a specific mission.

FAQ — Barrett QDL 50 BMG

Does the QDL make 50 BMG hearing-safe?

No — 50 BMG cannot be made hearing-safe by any suppressor. The QDL reduces the muzzle blast’s peak pressure and concussive effect at close range, making it more comfortable for nearby personnel and somewhat better for the shooter’s hearing over time. It is a significant improvement without being a solution. Hearing protection remains mandatory with the QDL installed.

Is the QDL compatible with all Barrett 50 BMG models?

The QDL is designed for the M82A1 and M107A1’s muzzle brake system. Compatibility with the M99 single-shot varies by configuration. Send us a message to confirm compatibility with your specific Barrett model.

Buying a suppressor now: a Form 4473 and a background check. No Form 4.

Since October 9, 2026, ATF no longer requires a Form 4, tax stamp, fingerprints, photos or registration to buy a suppressor. It transfers like any other firearm: you fill out a Form 4473, pass a NICS background check, and it is yours. No months-long wait.

  • Texas buyers: suppressors are legal under Texas law. Western Sport has been an SOT / Class III dealer since 2007.
  • Outside Texas: we ship to an SOT dealer in your state, who completes the 4473 with you. Your state’s law still decides — some states ban suppressors, and some only allow ones registered with ATF.
  • Want it registered anyway? ATF still accepts a voluntary Form 4. Ask us.
