The Browning BAR MK 4 Medallion is a semi-auto rifle chambered in .270 Winchester, built around a 22″ fluted barrel. It is the dressed-up version of the BAR line, with a nickel receiver, engraving and a figured walnut stock.
The stock is Grade III Turkish walnut with an oil finish. The receiver carries engraving over a nickel finish, which sets off the wood. The fluted barrel is polished, and the flutes are part of the Medallion look.
Under the finish, this is a gas-operated autoloader. The bolt rotates and locks itself into the barrel. Browning also notes that the connection between the action bar and the inertia block cuts down on barrel vibration, which helps accuracy. Capacity is 4 rounds.
Who it suits
This rifle fits a hunter who wants a quick follow-up shot without giving up a good-looking rifle. It also suits someone who appreciates engraving, nickel and real walnut and plans to carry it afield instead of leaving it in the safe.
For gear, think about a quality scope with mounts that match the receiver, a padded sling, and a hard or soft case that fits a rifle with a 22″ barrel. Add a supply of .270 Winchester hunting ammunition and a cleaning kit sized for the caliber. Wipe the nickel and oiled walnut down after each outing to keep them looking right.
