The Browning BAR MK 4 Medallion is a semi-auto rifle in .308 Winchester with a 22″ fluted barrel. It is a gas-operated autoloader built for hunters who want a self-loading rifle with classic looks.
The Medallion grade is about appearance as much as function. The stock is Grade III Turkish walnut with an oil finish. The receiver is nickel and carries engraving, so the silver finish stands out against the dark wood. The barrel is fluted and polished.
How it works
The BAR uses gas piston operation with a rotating bolt that locks into the barrel. Browning also points to the action bar and inertia block connection as a way to reduce barrel vibration and help accuracy. Capacity is 4 rounds.
This rifle fits a hunter who wants a semi-auto in a proven big-game chambering and cares how the rifle looks in the field and in the safe. It also appeals to collectors who like engraved receivers and figured walnut.
Good companions include a padded sling, a quality rifle case, a scope with mounts sized for this rifle, and a supply of .308 Winchester hunting ammunition. A cleaning kit and a few spare cleaning patches round out the basics.
