Product Description

The Daniel Defense DD5 V5 Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor and Mil-Spec+ is a semi-automatic rifle with a 20" barrel on the DD5 platform, finished in Mil-Spec+ Cerakote and built by Daniel Defense as a California Compliant SKU, part number 02-165-81690-055.

This is the long-range configuration in the DD5 line, in the finish that suits a rifle used outdoors. Twenty inches is the barrel length 6.5 Creedmoor was designed around: the extra velocity over an 18" rifle compounds downrange into a flatter trajectory and less wind drift past six hundred yards, which is where this cartridge justifies itself against .308. Mil-Spec+ is Daniel Defense’s Cerakote option, adding surface hardness and corrosion resistance beyond anodizing alone.

The platform underneath is the reason to buy this rather than a budget AR-10. Barrel meets upper receiver through Daniel Defense’s 4-Bolt Connection System instead of a barrel nut, increasing joint surface area for rigidity and stability. The bolt carrier group is superfinished and DLC coated with a carrier buffer, and the bolt carries enhanced extractor geometry and dual ejectors. Controls are fully ambidextrous and the rifle feeds SR-25 pattern magazines.

What we will confirm before you order

Calibre, barrel length, model, finish and compliance class are verified for this part number. Twist rate, barrel profile, gas system length, rail length, muzzle device and weight are not, and we will not carry those across from another DD5. In 6.5 Creedmoor the twist rate decides which bullet weights the barrel will stabilise, so it is the last thing to guess at.

California Compliant configuration

Daniel Defense catalogues this V5 as a California Compliant SKU. Compliance requirements change, are applied differently from one locality to another, and verifying them is the buyer’s responsibility — Western Sport will not tell you this rifle is legal at your address.

Who the 20-inch Mil-Spec+ V5 is for

Shooters who fire from support at distance and want a rifle that survives being carried through weather to get there. If your shooting happens mostly on foot, the 18" V4 is lighter and handier; from a bipod or bag, the extra two inches are free performance. Compare across the Daniel Defense rifle range, and see optics and scope mounts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why a 20-inch barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor?

A: Because the cartridge was designed around longer barrels. The extra velocity over an 18-inch rifle compounds downrange into a flatter trajectory and less wind drift at six hundred yards and beyond, which is exactly where 6.5 Creedmoor earns its advantage over .308.

Q: What does Mil-Spec+ add on this rifle?

A: It is Daniel Defense’s Cerakote finish option over the receivers and rail, adding surface hardness and corrosion resistance beyond anodizing alone, and giving a grey-green cast rather than black. On a rifle that gets carried outdoors it is a practical choice as much as an aesthetic one. Mechanically nothing changes.

Q: What twist rate does this barrel use?

A: We do not have a verified figure tied to this part number, so we will not publish one. In 6.5 Creedmoor the twist rate decides which bullet weights the barrel stabilises, which makes it the worst possible specification to approximate.

Q: How is the V5 different from the V4?

A: Barrel length is the headline difference: 20 inches here against 18 in the V4 in this calibre. Other configuration details vary, and we do not have verified SKU-level figures for either rifle’s twist, profile, gas system or rail.

Q: Will it take standard AR-10 magazines?

A: It accepts SR-25 pattern magazines, the standard for AR-10 type rifles in both 6.5 Creedmoor and 7.62 NATO. As this is a California Compliant SKU we are not publishing a supplied capacity; send us a message and we will confirm what this configuration includes.

Q: Is the Mil-Spec+ DD5 V5 legal in California?

A: We cannot tell you that. Daniel Defense builds this SKU as a California Compliant configuration, but requirements change and vary by locality, and verifying them is the buyer’s responsibility.
