Product Description

The Daniel Defense DDM4 V7K is a semi-automatic 5.56 NATO NFA short-barrelled rifle built on a 10.3" Government profile barrel with a 1:7 twist, carbine-length gas system on a low profile gas block, a free-floating MFR 9.0 M-LOK rail and a Daniel Defense flash suppressor. It weighs 5.34 lbs.

The V7K is what happens when Daniel Defense builds its M-LOK carbine as short as it goes. Where the MK18 pattern uses the heavier RIS II quad rail, the V7K carries an MFR 9.0 M-LOK handguard, and the difference shows on the scale: 5.34 lbs, with an overall length of 26 3/4 to 29 7/8 inches. That is a rifle you can hold up one-handed through a doorway, which is the entire argument for a 10.3" gun.

The MFR 9.0 covers the barrel out toward the muzzle and gives M-LOK attachment for a light, a laser and a hand stop. Daniel Defense pairs the V7K with an SLR MOD2 Barricade Handstop, which is more useful than it sounds: on a rifle this short, your support hand is close enough to the muzzle that a positive index matters, both for control and for keeping your fingers behind the flash suppressor. The carbine gas system is the only option at this length, and the improved Daniel Defense flash suppressor does real work here — 5.56 out of 10.3 inches produces a large muzzle flash.

NFA short-barrelled rifle — how it transfers

This firearm is a short-barrelled rifle regulated under the National Firearms Act. Possession requires a BATFE tax stamp and an approved NFA transfer through a dealer holding a Special Occupational Tax stamp. Western Sport holds an SOT, so we can complete the transfer here. We do not give legal advice or predict timelines — call 817-393-4000 and we will explain exactly how the process runs through our shop. Our NFA firearms listing shows what else transfers this way.

V7K or MK18?

Same barrel length, different philosophy. The MK18 pattern uses the RIS II Picatinny quad rail Daniel Defense supplies to USSOCOM — heavier, with continuous rail on four sides and M203 capability. The V7K uses an MFR 9.0 M-LOK rail and comes out lighter and slimmer in the hand at 5.34 lbs. If you are mounting legacy Picatinny hardware or want the SOCOM rail, take the MK18; if you want the lightest 10.3" Daniel Defense builds, take this. Compare the MK18 range and browse red dot sights for a short-gun optic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the DDM4 V7K need a tax stamp?

A: Yes. It is a short-barrelled rifle under the National Firearms Act, so it requires a BATFE tax stamp and an approved NFA transfer through a dealer holding a Special Occupational Tax stamp. Western Sport is an SOT dealer; call 817-393-4000 and we will explain how a transfer through us works.

Q: How light is the V7K?

A: 5.34 lbs, with an overall length of 26 3/4 to 29 7/8 inches including the muzzle device. Most of the saving over an MK18-pattern rifle of the same barrel length comes from the MFR 9.0 M-LOK rail replacing a heavier Picatinny quad rail.

Q: What is the SLR MOD2 Barricade Handstop for?

A: Indexing your support hand. On a 10.3-inch rifle your hand sits close to the muzzle, so a positive stop helps with recoil control and keeps fingers safely behind the flash suppressor. It also gives a repeatable reference point when shooting from a barricade.

Q: Why does a short barrel need a good flash suppressor?

A: Because 5.56 does not finish burning in 10.3 inches. The unburnt powder ignites outside the muzzle, producing a much larger flash than a 16-inch rifle makes. Daniel Defense’s improved flash suppressor significantly reduces that signature, which matters in low light and indoors.

Q: Is the MFR 9.0 rail long enough to be useful?

A: On this barrel, yes. It covers the barrel out toward the muzzle with M-LOK attachment for a light, laser and hand stop, plus a top rail for optics and night vision. There is less real estate than a 13 or 15-inch rail, which is the trade for a rifle this short.

Q: How do I take delivery?

A: Through an FFL that also holds an SOT, with an approved NFA transfer and tax stamp. Western Sport in Roanoke, Texas is both, so the whole process can be handled in house. Call 817-393-4000 and we will tell you what we need and in what order.
