Product Description

Update, October 9, 2026: ATF no longer requires a Form 4, tax stamp, fingerprints or registration for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns or AOWs. They now transfer on a standard Form 4473 with a background check. Anything below that mentions a Form 4, a wait or a tax stamp was written before this change. What changed

The Daniel Defense Flash Suppressor Assembly (Extended) is a muzzle device designed to reduce visible flash signature at the muzzle while directing combustion gases forward. This extended-length design pushes the flash signature farther from the shooter’s line of sight, which matters most in low-light environments and when shooting with night vision.

Flash suppressors break up and cool the expanding gas cloud that exits the muzzle, scattering unburned powder particles before they ignite in the open air. The extended configuration moves that disruption point forward, keeping the flash cone outside the shooter’s peripheral vision.

This assembly is classified as an upper receiver component and does not require FFL transfer when purchased separately.

Why Choose an Extended Flash Suppressor

Extended flash suppressors position the flash-reducing baffles or tines farther from the gas block and farther from the shooter’s eye. That extra distance matters when running an unsuppressed rifle in dim light or transitioning from daylight to dusk. The flash cone stays forward, outside the first few inches of your sight picture.

Shooters running night vision or low-light optics benefit most. A shorter flash hider may still produce enough backscatter to bloom a tube or obscure a red dot. The extended design keeps that bloom farther out.

Installation and Thread Pitch

Flash suppressor assemblies thread onto the muzzle end of your barrel. Thread pitch varies by barrel manufacturer and caliber, with 1/2×28 being the most common for 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington barrels. Always verify your barrel’s thread pitch before ordering any muzzle device.

If you’re unsure of your barrel specs or need confirmation on compatibility, send us a message. Our gunsmith can verify thread pitch and proper installation.

Daniel Defense Upper Parts Compatibility

This flash suppressor is part of the broader Daniel Defense upper parts ecosystem. Many shooters pair it with Daniel Defense barrels, rails, and bolt carrier groups when building or upgrading an AR-15 upper receiver. Browse the full range of Daniel Defense products to see compatible components.

If you’re assembling a complete upper or planning a build, our gunsmith can advise on parts compatibility and timing. Western Sport has offered gunsmithing services on site since opening.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What thread pitch does the Daniel Defense flash suppressor extended use?

A: The product specifications provided do not include thread pitch. Send us a message to confirm the thread pitch and ensure compatibility with your barrel before ordering.

Q: Does this flash suppressor require a tax stamp or ATF approval?

A: No, flash suppressors are not NFA-regulated items and do not require an ATF Form 1 or Form 4. This part ships as an upper component with no FFL transfer required.

Q: How does an extended flash suppressor differ from a standard-length model?

A: Extended flash suppressors move the flash-disrupting elements farther forward from the muzzle, positioning the visible flash cone farther from the shooter’s eye and optic. Standard-length models perform the same function but place the flash closer to the gas block and sight line.

Q: Can this flash suppressor be pinned and welded to meet barrel length requirements?

A: Flash suppressors are commonly pinned and welded to bring a short barrel up to the legal minimum length for a rifle. Our gunsmith can perform pinning and welding services; send us a message to discuss your build and timeline.

Q: Will this flash suppressor fit my AR-15 barrel?

A: Fit depends on your barrel’s thread pitch and muzzle diameter. Confirm those measurements before ordering any muzzle device.
