Product Description

The Daniel Defense Picatinny Rail Section, M-LOK is a 2.5 in. M1913 Picatinny rail section machined from 6061-T6 aluminum that attaches to an M-LOK handguard, converting part of an M-LOK slot run into a standard Picatinny interface. It weighs 1 oz.

M-LOK is an excellent direct-attach system right up to the moment the accessory you want only exists in Picatinny. Plenty of gear still does: older light mounts, some bipod and tripod clamps, night vision and laser mounts, QD sling attachments with rail lugs. A short section adds that interface exactly where the accessory has to sit.

At 2.5 in. it is sized for a single accessory rather than a run of them, which suits a compact handguard where space is already spoken for. Fitted through the M-LOK slots, it allows installation of any Picatinny accessory – vertical grips, weapon lights and sling attachments among them.

Planning the slot run

Work out the accessory’s position first, then check you have a clear 2.5 in. of M-LOK slots there. On a short handguard already carrying a light mount and a hand stop, clear space is usually less than people expect. If the accessory has to sit at a particular clock position, confirm your handguard has slots on that face. Our rail and handguard accessories section covers what else competes for those slots, with sights, lasers and lights and weapon accessories for what goes on top.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long is the rail section?

A: 2.5 in. of M1913 Picatinny rail. That is enough length for a light mount, a sling attachment or a short vertical grip clamp, and short enough that it does not dominate a compact handguard. It is a section rather than a full-length rail, so you place it where the accessory needs to be.

Q: What can I mount on it?

A: Any Picatinny accessory – the page names vertical grips, weapon lights and sling attachments as examples. That is the point of adding a rail section to an M-LOK handguard: it converts a slot run into a standard interface so gear that only comes in Picatinny still has somewhere to go.

Q: Which handguards does it fit?

A: M-LOK handguards. It attaches through the M-LOK interface, so any handguard with true M-LOK slots and enough clear run for a 2.5 in. section is a candidate. Measure the space you have before ordering, particularly on a short handguard with a light and hand stop already fitted.

Q: Is it true M1913 Picatinny or a Weaver-pattern rail?

A: It is a 2.5 in. M1913 Picatinny rail, which is the dimensioned military standard with the recoil grooves that Picatinny clamps and QD levers index into. That matters for anything with a recoil lug, because a Weaver-pattern rail does not guarantee the same slot spacing.

Q: What does it weigh and what is it made from?

A: 1 oz, machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with a Type III hard coat black anodizing. An ounce is a fair trade for converting part of a handguard to a universal interface, and the hard anodized finish stands up to the clamping and re-clamping a rail section actually sees.

Q: Why not just buy an M-LOK version of the accessory?

A: If a direct M-LOK version exists, it will usually be lighter and lower. A rail section earns its place when the accessory you want is only made in Picatinny, when you move one accessory between rifles, or when you need a QD interface that indexes in rail slots.
