The Maxim Defense MD9 904S is a 9mm short barreled rifle built for hearing-safe hunting, range shooting, and home defense with a compact 4.5″ barrel and 18-round capacity.
Update, October 9, 2026: ATF no longer requires a Form 4, tax stamp, fingerprints or registration for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns or AOWs. They now transfer on a standard Form 4473 with a background check. Anything below that mentions a Form 4, a wait or a tax stamp was written before this change. What changed
The Maxim Defense MD9 904S 9mm short barreled rifle delivers tactical performance in a compact, hearing-safe platform. This semi-automatic rifle features a 4.5″ barrel and holds 18 rounds, making it ideal for shooters seeking effective home defense or range-ready firepower without the noise signature of full-size rifles.
Additionally, the MD9 904S comes equipped with premium components. The Radian Talon ambidextrous safety ensures intuitive operation for left and right-handed shooters. Furthermore, the Radian Raptor charging handle, ALG Defense Combat Trigger, and BCM Gunfighter Grip deliver responsive, ergonomic handling you can depend on.
Compact Design & Tactical Features
This short barreled rifle combines a flat dark earth anodized finish with a Maxim SCW stock. The MLOK handguard accepts modern rail-mounted accessories. Moreover, the package includes two 18-round magazines for immediate duty readiness.
The 9mm caliber provides excellent handling and reduced recoil compared to larger rifle cartridges. Therefore, the MD9 904S suits home defense scenarios where hearing protection matters and shot placement precision is essential.
Ideal for Range Training & Home Defense
Whether you’re training at the range or securing your home, the Maxim Defense MD9 904S performs reliably. In addition to its compact footprint, the short barrel makes this rifle easy to maneuver in tight spaces. This makes it a natural choice for responsible homeowners and tactical shooters alike.
