Product Description

The Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 Pro Rifle in Gun Metal Grey is a semi-automatic 5.56 NATO rifle built on an 18" S2W heavy profile cold hammer forged barrel with a rifle-length gas system, a Geissele Automatics Super Dynamic 3-Gun trigger, a Daniel Defense Muzzle Climb Mitigator and an MFR 15.0 M-LOK rail, in Daniel Defense’s California Compliant configuration with a Magpul PMAG 10-round magazine.

Gun Metal Grey is a finish choice, but the reason to want this rifle is the barrel. An 18" S2W heavy profile is Daniel Defense’s strength-to-weight contour at the length where 5.56 starts to deliver real velocity gains over a carbine, and the extra mass keeps groups from wandering as the barrel heats. At 7.40 lbs it is not a rifle you buy to carry all day.

The rifle-length gas system is the other half of that. On an 18" barrel the gas port sits far enough forward to give the longest dwell and lowest port pressure available in the AR-15, so the bolt unlocks later and more gently and the recoil impulse is the flattest in the platform. Add the Muzzle Climb Mitigator’s calibrated ports working against muzzle rise, and a Geissele trigger with a short pull and quick reset, and the rifle stays on target through strings that would move a lighter carbine off it.

California Compliant configuration

Daniel Defense builds this SKU as its California Compliant V7 Pro and configures it with a Magpul PMAG 10-round magazine. Compliance requirements change and are interpreted differently in different localities, so treat nothing here as a statement of legality for your address.

Choosing between the 18-inch V7 Pro finishes

Daniel Defense offers this rifle in Gun Metal Grey, Cobalt, FDE and RattleCan. Mechanically they are the same rifle — same barrel, gas system, trigger and rail — so the decision is aesthetic. Gun Metal Grey is the most neutral of the coloured options and hides handling marks well. Compare across our Daniel Defense rifles, and see the optics and scope mounts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does the 18-inch barrel add over a 16-inch V7?

A: Velocity and stability. Two extra inches give measurably more muzzle velocity, and the S2W heavy profile carries enough mass to resist the point-of-impact drift a thin barrel shows as it warms. It also makes room for rifle-length gas, the flattest-shooting option in the platform.

Q: Is Gun Metal Grey just a colour?

A: Yes, in mechanical terms. The Gun Metal Grey, Cobalt, FDE and RattleCan V7 Pro rifles share the same barrel, gas system, trigger, rail and muzzle device. Gun Metal Grey is the most neutral of them and hides handling marks better than a light colour.

Q: What magazine does this California Compliant SKU come configured with?

A: A Magpul PMAG 10-round magazine, which is how Daniel Defense builds this compliant configuration. What you may lawfully own depends on current rules where you live, so verify those before ordering. Send us a message if you want us to confirm anything about this SKU’s configuration.

Q: Why does a rifle-length gas system matter on a competition rifle?

A: Because it lowers port pressure and delays unlocking more than any shorter gas length, which softens and flattens the impulse. Less muzzle movement per shot means less correction between shots. Over a long stage that shows up as faster splits and less fatigue.

Q: Is the Gun Metal Grey V7 Pro legal in California?

A: We cannot tell you that. Daniel Defense builds this SKU as a California Compliant configuration, but the requirements change and vary by locality. Confirm what currently applies in your own city and county with a competent source before ordering, and send us a message with questions about the SKU itself.

Q: What happens after I order this V7 Pro?

A: This is a serialized firearm and must be transferred through a licensed FFL.
