The Atrius Forced Reset Selector (FRS), also called the Atrius “Super Selektor” or Atrius super safety, is a drop-in AR-15 safety selector with three positions: Safe, Semi and Super-Semi. In the third position it forces your existing trigger to reset after every shot, so it behaves like a forced reset trigger without replacing your trigger group. This guide covers which Atrius model to buy, what your rifle needs, how to install it, and how to fix the problems people actually run into. Every Atrius model we stock ships to your door with no FFL.
Atrius forced reset selector at a glance
- Maker: Atrius Development Group (Atrius), made in the USA.
- Positions: Safe, Semi (traditional) and Super-Semi (forced reset). One round per pull in every firing position.
- Build: heat-treated 4140 steel with a corrosion-resistant black nitride finish.
- Rifle needs: a full-profile (M16) bolt carrier, an H2 or H3 buffer, a low-shelf or full-profile lower, a carbine-length buffer tube, and a mil-spec trigger with a squared-off trigger bar.
- Will not work with: triggers with a U-notch or relief cut, high-shelf lowers, pistol-length buffer tubes, or AR-10/SR-25 rifles without significant gunsmithing.
- Install: pistol grip off, old selector out, new selector and cam lever in; the buffer tube stays on.
Which Atrius model do you need?
| Model | Levers | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Atrius Forced Reset Selector | Single-sided, ergonomic switch | Right-handed shooters with a compatible mil-spec trigger; Atrius’s original model, released May 2025 |
| Atrius Mil-Spec Ambi Forced Reset Selector | Ambidextrous, mil-spec style switch with a position pointer on both sides | Left-handed shooters or anyone who wants a traditional-looking ambi selector; Atrius names single-stage drop-in cassettes such as Rise Armament as compatible |
| Atrius G-Lever Ambidextrous Forced Reset Selector | Ambidextrous | Geissele SSA, SSA-E and G2S triggers, and similar reduced-hammer designs. Not compatible with Geissele X Series |
Prefer an unbranded option? The Ambi 3-Position Forced Reset Selector is an ambidextrous 3-position super safety for mil-spec triggers without a relief cut. It is our own product, not an Atrius model.
Not sure what trigger you have? Pull the trigger group and look at the rear of the trigger bar. If it is squared off, a standard Atrius selector should work. If it has a U-shaped notch or a relief cut, it will not, and a drop-in forced reset trigger that replaces the whole trigger group may be the better route; see super safety vs FRT.
Compatibility checklist
Atrius lists these as minimum requirements. Check every line before you order:
- Trigger pocket: a low-shelf or full-profile trigger pocket. A high-shelf lower, where a shelf of material sits level with the top of the selector hole, is not compatible.
- Bolt carrier group: a full-profile (M16) BCG. Semi-auto carriers with the cut-away bottom will not reset the trigger. We stock M16 carriers from Rankin Industries, Daniel Defense, Faxon and Phase 5.
- Buffer: H2 or H3. See our buffers and buffer tube kits.
- Buffer tube: carbine length. AR pistols with pistol-length tubes are not compatible.
- Trigger: a mil-spec trigger with a squared-off trigger bar at the rear. Triggers with a U-notch or relief cut are not compatible. For Geissele SSA, SSA-E and G2S, use the G-Lever model.
- Platform and caliber: AR-15 in .223/5.56 or .300 Blackout. Not AR-10/SR-25 without significant gunsmithing; AR-9 builds may need a gunsmith. Atrius says piston ARs that use a standard full-profile BCG and carbine tube should still work.
- No previous super safety work: rifles already modified to “super safety” specifications may not be compatible.
How to install an Atrius forced reset selector
Unload the rifle, remove the magazine, lock the bolt back, and confirm the chamber is empty before you start. Then, following Atrius’s instructions:
- Remove the pistol grip, taking care to catch the selector spring and detent.
- Remove the original safety selector.
- Insert the Atrius detent shaft from the right side of the receiver, about halfway in.
- Fit the spring and cam lever before pushing the detent shaft all the way through the receiver.
- Reinstall the selector detent, spring and pistol grip.
- Install the lever with the T10 screw (4-40 thread). Atrius recommends 15 in-lb with blue thread locker only.
- Run Atrius’s binding test with the upper off, then a full function check with the upper on, before you ever load it.
The buffer tube does not need to come off. If you would rather not do it yourself, any competent gunsmith can install it quickly.
Binding test and function check
- Binding test (upper off): put the selector in the third position, apply downward pressure to the hammer, and confirm the lever on the selector moves all the way to the rear by hand. Atrius also suggests a paint-marker check for contact with the upper receiver.
- Safe: the trigger must not release the hammer.
- Semi: pull and hold the trigger, cycle the charging handle, release the trigger and confirm it resets normally.
- Super-Semi: pull and hold the trigger, cycle the charging handle, and you should feel the trigger pushed forward to reset.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Most likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Light primer strikes | Buffer too light, or a buffer without a dead-blow effect (Atrius says this causes about 90% of cases) | Step up the buffer weight, H1 to H2 or H2 to H3 |
| Bolt bounce | Buffer weight | Move up a buffer weight |
| Dead trigger in the third position | Wrong bolt carrier, or a trigger bar with a relief cut or U-notch | Confirm a full-profile (M16) BCG and a squared-off trigger bar |
| Selector binds or will not rotate fully | Contact with the upper or a tight lower | Repeat the binding test and the paint-marker check |
| Inconsistent reset | Gas or carrier speed | Check the rifle is properly gassed and the carrier is clean and lubricated |
Is the Atrius super safety legal?
Like a forced reset trigger, the Atrius selector fires one round per function of the trigger. There is no federal statute or ATF rule written specifically for forced reset selectors, and several states restrict forced reset and rapid-fire devices. We do not ship Atrius selectors to CA, CO, CT, DE, DC, FL, HI, IL, IA, MD, MA, MN, NV, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VA or WA, U.S. territories or outside the United States. Atrius also asks every buyer to confirm they may legally own it where they live. Our FRT legality guide has the federal background and Texas. Not legal advice.
Atrius forced reset selector FAQ
Is the Atrius forced reset selector the same as the Super Selektor?
Yes. Atrius Development Group calls the product the Forced Reset Selector (FRS) or Forced Reset Safety. Shooters and many retailers call it the Atrius Super Selektor, Super Selector or Atrius super safety.
What buffer do I need for the Atrius super selektor?
An H2 or H3 buffer. Atrius lists that as a minimum requirement and says most light-strike problems come from a buffer that is too light. If you get light strikes or bolt bounce, move up one buffer weight.
How does the Atrius FRS work?
In the Super-Semi position, a cam on the selector shaft uses the hammer’s rearward movement to push your trigger forward to its reset point. You still pull the trigger once for every round, but the reset happens for you, so follow-up shots come much faster.
What are the trigger requirements for the Atrius forced reset selector?
A mil-spec trigger with a squared-off trigger bar at the rear. Triggers with a U-notch or relief cut are not compatible. Geissele SSA, SSA-E and G2S triggers need the Atrius G-Lever model, and Geissele X Series triggers are not compatible.
Does the Atrius selector work in an AR pistol?
Only with a carbine-length buffer tube. Atrius says pistol-length buffer tubes make the platform incompatible.
Do I need an M16 bolt carrier for the Atrius FRS?
Yes. Atrius requires a full-profile bolt carrier group. A semi-auto carrier with the cut-away bottom will not reset the trigger.
Will the Atrius forced reset selector fit an AR-10?
No, not without significant gunsmithing according to Atrius. It is designed for AR-15s in .223/5.56 and .300 Blackout.
